This is the first weekend all summer that I have not had to work or go out of town, so I got a lot of stuff done... namely a)read The Da Vinci Code and b)watch Phantom of the Opera. Both of them, IMO, were fabulous. I know I am a little slow on the uptake since both of them have been out on the respective media, I don't know, over two years, but I think I have found two more fandoms. Yeah, like I need more obsessions. Now I shall have to buy both the book and the DVD since I checked them out from the library.
What I liked because I'm bored, and you are too since you are reading your LJ friends page...
The Da Vinci Code had a lovely plot. Dan Brown is not the most spectacualar writer in the sense that his prose is beautiful, but his story is riveting and makes you think. He is quite akin to J.K. Rowling in that respect, though I do not believe he used the word "reproachful" at all. I have spent a lot of time thinking about the issues he brings up, actually, but I won't say any more in case you wish to read. I threw together some text icons last night because I was inspired, which can be seen

The Phantom of the Opera was breathtaking. I knew the basic story (from watching Wishbone!) but I have never seen the play or anything like that. The camera angles and colors were perfect, and dare I say the mixing of digetic singing and non-digetic background music was amazing. Thank you, Mrs. Graves, for making me analyze movies. Pbbt. It seems kind of like a chick flick, which I normally don't like, but it has so much more majesty and so much less omgZ crying that it = love. Not to mention the actor who plays the Phantom is gorgeous... but you know my position on gorgeous guys in already great films... they simply add to my love, not make it, mkay?
Oh, and this longest update in months was posted on my new laptop, which is driving me nuts ATM because things that are supposed to be 100x100 px, namely my beloved icons, are much smaller on this screen. I've tried changing the screen resolution (bigger, but grainy to the max), and the DPI somewhere else, but any help y'all can give to this apparently incompetent person would be very loved.
