Hello, kittens.

I'm back, more or less. In Illinois, anyway. Currently sitting in a McDonald's, recharging my computer, surfing the web, reading Dreadnought by Cherie Priest, and contemplating working more on "Maggots, Vermin, Ashes, Dust," or either of the Four/Sarah Jane fics I'm currently working on ("Look After Him" and "The Last Plaything"). Soonishly I shall either walk down to the bus stop, or just walk in general. It's still several hours till my mom can pick me up.

What have I been up to in my life of lifiness? Well, I took a trip down to Georgia to visit my friend Colleen. The trip down was pretty cool; I went with my Aunt Beth, who is trying to do a bucket list thing of visiting all the national wildlife refuges in the country. I enjoyed the Southern Illinois ones (I love how the forests look just like the ones up here except for GIANT RANDOM BOULDERS) but my favorite was definitely the one outside Scottsboro, Alabama, where cool air comes up from the caves and you can see thousands of bats fly out at nightfall.

That said, as much as I love all members of my extended family, we do not always operate on the same wavelength, and there were times I had to mentally start sewing a vest to keep from getting irritated.

The stay with Colken and her boy Nick (who I am going to keep calling Brig, when I remember, until the two of them do a Brigadier and Liz Shaw cosplay) was awesomesauce, and I miss it already. We'd get up in the middle of the day, go thrifting and antiquing, and then come home and watch movies or just talk as we worked on crafty things--I have a patchwork quilt I'm tackling, Nick's a master costumer, and Colleen has turned into a necklace-making machine. It was lovely and creative and fun, and it was great to see Colleen again after not seeing her for ages and catch up on various things in our lives of lifiness. And I'm holding them to their promise to come up and visit me sometime!

Speaking of thrifting, the universe clearly wanted me to cosplay a Death to the Daleks Sarah Jane, as I have never seen so many ugly brown pantsuits, ever. (Sarah Jane, darling, I love you for all eternity, but as a young woman your taste in suits was suspect at best.) But I couldn't find one quite right, so I guess the universe was much more invested in getting me to cosplay Seeds of Doom Sarah Jane, as I found a red dress with white polka dots that just needs an altered neckline and a bit of white trim, which I think I can do. The universe also apparently wants me to cosplay a genderswitch Three, as I found a glorious silk ruffled teal shirt and a woman's velvet forest green jacket that will be perfect once I take it in a bit.

Things to do: figure out rent situation. Go through e-mails before account is deleted. Transfer money from Illinois bank to Minnesota bank. Figure out what is going on with my dad wanting to send me to Puerto Rico, and when I can expect to be back in Minnesota. Pack. Hang out with Illinois friends one last time.
