Javier Bardem is Roland
Javier Bardem has signed on to star in movie and TV versions of Stephen King's smash hit Dark Tower books, according to reports.
The Spanish-born Oscar winner will play the role of Roland Deschain in Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's adaptation of the seven-novel series.
Three movies will be made with each one followed by a TV miniseries, reports the New York Post.
In the books Deschain travels through an Old West-style landscape in search of the mythical Dark Tower to save the rest of civilisation.
Shooting on the first movie is expected to go into production in September and will be directed by Howard.
'Bardem has signed on to the first movie and the miniseries, but the plan is that he will star in all three movies and each of the TV series,' an insider told the New York Post.
'It is a massive deal for any actor, but Bardem was always their first choice.
