Fall fail (or possibly win :P)

So I wiped out on the stairs pretty damn hard last Wednesday, just over a week now, and I was totally out of it for about two days (couldn't get out of bed). Then I was hobbling around for a bit on crutches, and now I seem to be better. I still can't run or sit comfortably, but I'm definitely better than where I was. But I have this swollen lump ( Read more... )

YES, you should go to the doctor. That much localized swelling this long after the incident is something you should definitely get checked out.

In the mean time: Have you been icing it? Since it's been a week, you could alternate ice packs and a heating pad, no more than 20 minutes each, and preferably letting the skin return to near normal temp after each before starting the next.

And if you're not allergic to NSAIDs, you could take naproxen sodium (Aleve) twice daily or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) three times daily -- one or the other, but not both. They contain anti-inflammatory agents that reduce swelling. Either of these should always be taken with food since they can be hard on the stomach lining.

This. If you can take the NSAIDs, also take them every however often even if you're not actually feeling bad at the time. (Like, don't wait until you're in pain, just take it when the time's up from the last dose.) They work much more effectively if you keep the levels in your system up and don't let the inflammation build up between doses.

Yeah - I think I might have some Advil around here so I'm going to start taking those. Because oy ... I've had enough -_-

Thank you!! I actually went to a walk-in clinic but the doctor was an epic fail -___- he had, literally, one hand on the door ready to leave at any second, he kept opening it to go but I'd stop him with a question. So hopefully I'll be able to see my family doctor tomorrow :/

I'll definitely do the ice thing, and I think I might have a heating pad around here. But yes, thank you <333

I absolutely HATE doctors who do that. *teethgnash*

I could go on a major rant about that, but I'll spare you. I'm glad you have a family doc you can see, and I hope you'll be able to get an appointment quickly. *gentle hugs*
