The Absence of Muru

The letter crumpled up tight in her hand clutching the reigns, Nikoleta rode fast and hard through Silvermoon, dead-set toward the Enclave. She wasn’t sure as to why she was summoned, but the cold sweat on her brow made her uneasy and filled with a very odd feeling. She brought up a blessing of wisdom from the Light to ease her. The city itself felt odd.

Upon arriving she lurched off of Daimon and ran inside the Enclave. Daimon snuffled and stamped slightly, echoing the unease around him.

She ran around without finding anyone in the upper floors and peered down below to the Naaru’s chamber.

Red thick vapor of an arcane feel rose up to meet her, instead of the bright and sad glow of Muru. She clenched her eyes, and wrenched herself away, running to the lower chamber.

Knight-Lord Bloodvalor, Champion Bachi, and several others were standing around in the room. Most of the Magisters were on the floor.

And Muru was gone.

Nikoleta opened and closed her mouth several times staring up at the empty space filled with the crimson vapors flowing up from the Magisters. Muru was gone. Was he free? Was he finally free?

Her eyes watered and she felt a pull on her arm. Knight-Lord Bloodvalor looked down at her, nodding a greeting. She saluted him.

“Daysbane… Im sure I do not have to tell you the obvious as we are all feeling it and we all are coming here to see it. Our Matriarch Liadrin has gone to Shattrath City to speak with A’dal, another Naaru. A’dal told her.. yes, the Naaru can speak, evidently… He told her that Muru was here with us because of a prophecy. He sacrificed himself. Our Matriarch has renounced our loyalties to the Sunstrider and we are to fight. Kael’Thas is our enemy.”

Nikoleta couldn’t look away from Lord Bloodvalor as a surge of thought flooded her mind. -Oh poor Muru, you told me you had no choice.. Oh poor Muru! And Kael'Thas?!!?!

Lord Bloodvalor scowled slightly at her lack of attention and she snapped back up and saluted. “Yes, Knight-Master. I understand my duty to the Order and to the people…”

He nodded and sighed, looking back at the Magisters as if calculating how long they are going to make it. “I am sure you need to rest, Sir Nikoleta… The loss of our light has been traumatizing to most…”

Nikoleta blinked at him. “But I called up the Light just fine a moment ago… “ He looked over at her sharply and scowled. She looked up at him for only a moment, wondering what she did wrong before it donned on her. “Ohh..” Her mouth dropped slightly as she realized that the “Light” had, indeed, been with her all along, only Muru’s presence within her was gone. She looked up to see Lord Bloodvalor squint down at her for a moment as if he knew as well where her power came from. Finally he sighed and nodded. “Perhaps your -type-… will be an asset to us after all.” He shook his head, looking as though he was trying to allow for this possibility after everything he had ever taught. After everything he had been taught and finally saluted Nikoleta. She focused on his hand, forgetting to salute back as she saw the slightest shake from his wrist. Her eyes moved over his face and she noticed how pale he was. She bit her lip. “Oh Sir…”

Lord Bloodvalor tucked his hand behind him and straightened up. “I am well. There is nothing to be concerned about. The absence of that naaru’s power is… awkward… inside.”

Nikoleta looked up at her Master with pity and respect and whispered the smallest healing spell to her fingers. Her pointer glimmered slightly as she dared to reach out to his temple and press against it. Lord Bloodvalor scowled as he watched but then gasped in response. “By the… Light!” He tried to whisper.

Already his skin was looking more healthy. Nikoleta smiled and saluted her old teacher and turned to the place where Muru had once spoken to her.

The Magisters were all sickly looking, lying around on the floor, looking almost like wraiths.

Looking at them all she smiled warmly. She knew her place in life.
