Practice

Today was a good day. I got my hair cut, and the stylist gave me the best cut that she has given me. I got a refill of Mimi's meds, and bought Pill Pockets because, when I mixed the pill in her food, she wouldn't eat the part of the food with the pill. Today, she ate the Pill Pocket, and the pill didn't come back up. (When Harlee was on meds, she'd eat the Pill Pocket and--patooie--spit out the pill. Mimi is too greedy to do that, thank goodness.) Mimi has been mellow. And now it's the weekend. I see a pattern in which Mimi and Zara get along better when I'm home on the weekend, but I can't exactly afford to quit my job to stay home with them. Zara is starting to stress over the amount of time that she's spending in the bedroom though. More and more because I don't want them to fight late at night. I'm really glad that she'll have time to roam this weekend.

ravengirl wrote about the practice of being kind to others. It occurred to me that dealing with Mimi is my practice right now, going through the two steps forward and one step back of her interactions with Zara. My task is to love her, even if I get really frustrated with how she's treating Zara. It's kind of life on the micro level, but that's okay.

I also learned today that I have 120 hours of vacation time and personal time accrued. (!) So I'm going to take the week of July 4th off. I can't remember when I've had an entire week off when I've not been moving. I plan to do a lot around here, but also want to do some recreational things as well.

My mom had wanted to come to visit me, but she's been having health problems. However, she's determined to come down here for the Lincoln Balloon Festival (as in hot air balloons) at the end of August. So I'm planning to take a long weekend then as well.

The universe is testing my contentment, though. Over the last week, I saw job listings for Catalog Librarians in Hawaii and New Orleans, both of which being places in which I'd love to live. Ah well. I'm in the right place for me for right now.

An aside: when did eggs get to be so cheap? $0.34 for a dozen large eggs? I have a taste for scrambled eggs on toast, so I'll probably eat that for lunch fairly often. (I'm too groggy in the morning to make eggs when I first get up.)
