San Juan Day 1

Apparently, there is DoorDash here. I'd like to eat near the place that we meet for the tour, but I'll DoorDash if I don't find anything. I need to skip lunches though for the duration.

This trip is sucking so far. I talked to the front desk, and they need to charge me more than I've got, so I need to switch hotels. So much for my tour today. This time, I'm trying Hotels.com because I haven't had issues with them about not charging me the full amount but sending me a receipt for the full amount. I found another, cheaper hotel. I'm going to pack my stuff up and take a short nap.

The hotel called. They decided to charge me the weekday rate for tonight, which I paid for. So I don't need to leave after all. I'm just out of the cost of the tour. I can take a long nap, and I can go to the pool later.

Now I’m thinking that I should take a long weekend trip to Puerto Rico sometime and see Old San Juan and go to the beach. It would be a nice getaway. Hmm, I was thinking that I should take public transportation to Old San Juan, but a Reddit said not to take public transportation. A cheap Uber, maybe?

I had a nice nap. Had a protein bar for lunch. Now I’m trying to figure out what to do. I forgot my comb (although I want to double-check that I really did), so I need to walk up to Walgreens. I’ll Uber to Old San Juan afterwards if my broken toe feels up to walking. There’s a Walmart by the Walgreens. Better price-wise. I’ll pick up a bottle of diet cola for the hotel room.

I went to Walmart. It was easy, just go down the street until you get to Walgreens and hang a right. There was a nice big sign. I bought two bottles of soda, frozen spaghetti, and a sandwich for less than the cost of a meal in a restaurant. Aaaand, I got lost on the way back. (Thanks, Dad, for the lousy sense of direction.) Apparently, I went past the hotel. I called the hotel and asked for directions, but they weren’t much help. I asked Google Maps again for directions, and this time paid attention to the address of the hotel, and kept on looking for the address and found it. Once I found it, I recognized it. I’m not sure how I walked past it.

My foot held up surprisingly well during the long walk, but the rest of my body is saying, “You haven’t done a long walk like that in a long time.” It’s a little late to go to Old San Juan (if I get up really early, I might be able to go in the morning), but I am a dripping sodden mess, and all I want to do is hit the pool.

Lunch was good. Who needs fancy restaurants? I wondering if I should wait a while to go into the pool, or if that’s an old wives’ tale.

Took a dip in the pool. It’s an infinity pool smack in the middle of their rooftop restaurant. To say that I felt uncomfortable was an understatement. But the view up there is spectacular. (I didn’t bring my phone to take pictures because I was worried about getting too far away from it. Had I known how tiny the pool area was, I would have brought it.) It did cool me off though.

Gave myself a pedicure. My feet look nice in sandals now. Had dinner. I'm thinking of going to bed really early and get up early. I'll need to get up early on Sunday to go to my first shore excursion, which I really want to go to. So I might as well start shifting my wakeup time.
