Annoyingly, I woke up at 6 AM this morning. I’m going to eat breakfast and try to take a nap.
I forgot to mention that you can see the ocean from my room. I can’t get the lanai door open. Otherwise, I would walk over there. I might as well describe the hotel. It's a huge complex of suite rooms and condos. (I've gotten lost a couple of times in here.) My room has a full kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and bedroom. Basically, it's a one-bedroom condo. It's very nice.
I found directions to the boat charter that I'm taking today. They called to confirm that the trip is on.
Okay, I’m going to try to take a nap. Nope, I'm up. Showered, etc. I decided to wear my Hawaiian shirt and shorts because if I wore long pants, I might trip over them and fall off the boat! Okay, the Hawaiian shirt kept on unbuttoning itself, so I switched to a t-shirt. I can't wait until I lose more weight off of my chest!
I filed a claim with my insurance company. And it's still early. I'm getting a bit of a headache. I think that I'll go for a walk and see if I can get to the ocean. I found it and took a nice walk along the beach. It made me happy. They offer surf lessons there, but I think not this time.
Called the spa, but they aren't answering. I tried another spa that I found online. They had an online booking form, but when I tried to book an appointment on the 10th, I got a server error from the RECAPITCHA form. I tried calling them, but someone answered but didn't say anything. Maybe it's a sign that I shouldn't get a massage while I'm here. Maybe I'll try later using my phone as a hotspot.
The weather has been perfect. I know that it's supposed to rain a lot on Kauai, but not so far. We received a note about fire danger Sunday and Monday from the management. That I guess is the down side.
I made it to the boat charter company way early, but I wanted the seasickness tablets to kick in before I get on the boat. They were chewable and disgusting. It’s windy outside, not surprisingly because we’re near the water. I’m just hanging out now. I bought a Kauai zipped jacket and it cost $75! Sheesh. But I really like it.
Doing all this touristy stuff makes me want to “moo” though. At least we won’t be dinner.
When we were on Maui when I was a kid, we took a boat trip. The sea was calm and we really enjoyed it, so we did it again. That day, the sea was rough, and I was lying on the deck for the entire trip thinking, "Let me die".
This was a "let me die" kind of trip. It was a four-hour trip, which was at least a couple of hours too long. I was sitting inside the deck, concentrating on not losing my cookies in the rough water, when we went past Niihau. I wanted a picture of Niihau, so I got up and tried to jump between hand rails. I fell and skinned my knee. A nurse on the trip patched me up. One of the crew members said that the sea was too rough to take pictures, and I could get pictures on the way back. After that, I stayed put at my little table in the cabin. While we were at Na Pali, I lost my battle and threw up. I immediately felt better. I was able to get up and get some pictures while we were stopped. One of the crew members nicely asked me if I had gotten pictures. I retreated to my little table on the way back. We stopped for the sunset, and I got a couple of pictures of the sunset. Then I went back inside. Apparently there was a herd of dolphins that people on the deck saw, but by the time I got back out, they were gone.
I wasn't the only one who felt sick. One guy couldn't keep anything down. A few other people said that they were queasy, and one woman asked hopefully if we would get back soon.
I needed the washroom, but I wanted to wait until I could sit on a toilet seat that wouldn't move :) Luckily, the bathroom near the charter place was still open. I drove back with no issues.
They fed us on the boat, but I ate a piece of pizza when I got back to further settle my stomach. I'm feeling okay now. True to form, I started yawning at 7:30 PM.
Tomorrow was supposed to be the snorkeling tour, but wild horses wouldn't drag me on that boat. The passage between Kauai and Niihau is supposed to be rough. I'm planning to stick around the area tomorrow. If I get up at 6 AM again (sigh), I'll throw myself together and take pictures on the beach with my DSLR. I have an assignment from the photography teacher to try different f-stops and shutter speeds.
