I've thought of moving to Bloomington. Nice little town with easy access to other Illinois cities.

Italy, Memphis, etc. are for when I retire in another 10 years. Champaign is for right now because my job is located there, although we're working remotely with a few onsite meetings. It's possible that I could decide to stay in Champaign for retirement. We'll see.

Yes, Bloomington is nice. They have a nice community food/farming co-op. Pleasant tree-lined streets. Unlike Normal, which is generally windswept and barron. I visitted friends in Champaign and my impression was that it was big and boring, lol. I am sure there's much more to it than that. Lots of good academic stuff going on down there.

Champaign has the best selection of stores outside of Chicago and Saint Louis. The uni also has a lot of plays, music, etc. And the town is pretty in the fall.

I (personally) would eschew ever moving to a town w/ no university.
When my family first moved to Fort Wayne, my aunt raved about all the shoppng to be had in Chicago. I'm more interested in good soil, lol.
