That's horrible! Thank God he wasn't there. To this day, now and then an un-detonated bomb will be found here.

Yes, to this day. We used to live in Mannheim where a 500-kg bomb was recently found: https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/other/wwii-bomb-discovered-and-defused-in-mannheim/ar-BB1fX0d7

A more recent find was a 250-kg bomb found on 29 January of this year in a suburb of Mannheim, but I could only find German news articles on that.
