...
You never knew love until you had met him.
His smile was wide, eyes bright, and his innocence sparkled in a way that you wished to capture and use as a nightlight. He was your first friend in this big place, the music industry lonely without someone, but he was always by your side, holding your hand and making you happy.
He lifted you up when you were feeling down, suspended high above the ground and you never wished to come back down.
You traced his name in the palm of your hand: Jung Yunho, Jung Yunho, Jung Yunho. So many times that you kept seeing it there even though your hand was as flawless as ever. Sometimes when you wrote your own name you had to remind yourself to write Kim Jaejoong, not Jung Jaejoong.
After joining the company, you met so many new people, friendly faces of boys just like you with wide toothy grins and round, innocent eyes. You made new friends, but… he was a constant. He was your best friend.
Without him you were alone, even when the other boys wanted to talk to you, play with you, or just sit around in the dorm rooms playing video games. When he was not there, you could not sleep, could not eat, and barely talked. He completed you in a way that you had never known, but when you realized it, him being separated from you was unbearable.
You remember being a reckless teenager, getting in trouble with the manager and causing problems for the company, with him as your accomplice. You told him dreams that you had once had, things that you had wanted to achieve when you were nothing more than a nobody on the side of the road, hoping for someone to lend you a hand. He told you his, his voice and his words flowing so smoothly, filling your ears like sweet music, and you were captivated by what he said. He made you feel like you were there.
He made you feel loved.
He was there with you when you broke your leg. He helped you get from one place to another, holding your hand or placing his own on the small of your back, leading you to where you needed to be.
He just never realized that wherever he was, that was where you wanted to be as well.
You were with him after he was poisoned by the anti fan. You never left his bedside, gripped his larger hand with your own, praying to the God that you never really believed in to help him, to hear you out, to save him. You shed so many tears, so many, so many… You lost track of the time, the days, the hours, the minutes, the seconds--it all meant nothing to you.
Time spent without him was pointless for you.
You had seen the disappointment in his eyes after the incident with your DUI. Shake his head in shame, walk away from you, because he needed to think, because he did not want to believe it. He left you… he knew you needed space, needed this punishment, think things over.
He wanted you to understand… Wanted you to let you know that he never wanted this to happen again. He was scared for you. Scared of losing you. Scared of waking up and you not there anymore; scolding Changmin, composing with Yoochun, talking to Junsu, and most importantly…
He was afraid that he would wake up and you would not be there anymore… that you would not be around to love him anymore. That he would not be able to love you.
What had started as nothing more than a friendship, so close that it walked a fine line, one wrong move and you would step into forbidden territory, turned into something more when the band came to Japan.
It was a large place, foreign and complex, and you could not help but to want to hold his hand, make sure that he would not be taken away from you. You remember being unsure, crying into your pillow, because you felt so insecure. You would drag the band down, they would not need you, that the people would not like you.
He came to you, like always, and held you close, rocked you back and forth, whispered words of encouragement. You pulled away slightly, your face messy with tears and you thought you might be ugly at that moment, but with his brown eyes only on you, you could not help but to feel like the most beautiful creature on Earth.
Before you knew it, you were leaning forward, just a tilt of the head and your lips met. Slightly shocked by what you did, you pulled away, bright red and stammering odd phrases that he could seem to figure out what meant. That was okay, though, you had no idea what you were talking about either, only the tingle where the two of your lips had met.
After he got passed the confusion, he shook his head with a smile, and pulled you closer into a warm embrace. The kiss--if that was what it was called--was not spoken of between the two of you again.
Then one night, a few months later, he cornered you in the hallway of your apartment, the rest of the band piled on the couch watching some Japanese drama. His expression was serious, you immediately opened your mouth to ask what was wrong, but the words left you when his lips crashed down onto yours, a bruising kiss that left you both gasping for air.
“I was thinking about this a lot… Boo, I think I am in love with you,” he whispered, his voice almost inaudible, as if he were afraid the others would hear his confession.
Surprised at first, you let your features soften into a wide smile as you placed your forehead against his, “I think I am in love with you, too, Yunnie.”
It had always been there. Always. Your love growing with each second that ticked by.
You do not know how many times the two of you had gotten in trouble with your displays of affection. They did not punish you much, though, because the fans lived for those moments. The brushings of hands, the not-so secret looks, the silly little antics of the couple’s number one supporter (the baby was too smart for his own good sometimes), and all the fan service in between.
At first, you had hated that term. Your love meant more than that. The two of you were not doing this to please the fans, the two of you actually felt something for each other. Then the more you thought about it, the more you welcomed it. Fan service was the only way to show your love to Yunho in public.
In private, things were different.
You were the band mother, he was their father, and the other three were your babies. Well, until Yoochun and Junsu decided to come clean about their relationship as well, one that had started from fan service and slowly grew to something more. Whatever your roles were (father, daughter, son, aunt, uncle…) you were all one big family, and that was all that mattered.
You accepted each other, although you had worried so much about it before. At first, things were odd, a little awkward, but then with a crack of a joke from the Dolphin-squeaking child of yours, everything clicked into place once again.
Your first time was hesitant, nerve-wracking, cautious, and nothing like the fans wrote about. You remember the worry in his dark brown eyes, clouded over with want and adoration, but you could tell he was just as scared as you. His fingers fumbled over your body, yours were slightly unsure, but when he whispered his silent “I love you” into your ear, everything became a lot more confident.
Laying in the after glow, your head tucked beneath his chin, his arms wound tightly around you, nothing else mattered. His love was enough, more than enough, and you just wished that these days with him would last. Even if TVXQ one day would disband, the family that the five of you had created would remain.
The five of you might not fit like a puzzle, smooth edges with pieces that were not damaged, but things like that did not matter. You had him, you had Yoochun, you had Junsu, and you had Changmin. You had your family, and nothing was going to change.
You had love, and without him, you might have never known what it meant or felt like.

Once again, happy (belated) birthday to my Chloe Boo~ I still think that it is I who loves you more~ :)
Hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think~
