Caffeine and Breast Milk

Dec 20, 2010 09:47

I have recently been hitting myself over the head with my daily nutrition choices.  When I gave birth, for a split second, I was so happy to be able to "have my body back to myself," and then I remembered that breast milk passes along any bad nutrition choice I make for myself.  So I did pretty well those first few months that I was able to nurse ( Read more... )

WOW. I'm not gonna lie...my diet in Ohio was AWFUL. I drank a LOT of Mountain Dew. When I'm at home, I drink almost no caffeine (I drink 1 vitamin water energy/day on avg so that may be throwing me off a bit tho I do go to town on chocolate once in awhile). And we have veggies at least once a day. It helps that we're pescetarian/ovo-lacto vegetarians. (We use soy milk but don't avoid cheese 100%)

It also helps that Orion is lactose intolerant on a small scale. I have to be aware of the amount of cheese I eat.

BUT. Don't feel guilty and don't feel like you're a bad parent. I've been breastfeeding for almost 5 months and damn is it HARD. I work from home so I'm here 99% of the time when O wants to eat. And it's exhausting. I don't know if I would have lasted this long if I weren't working from home. And he does get formula about 1/day. My breasts hurt/he sleeps longer/he's eating a LOT more now (8oz last night!). The fact that you tried and lasted for ANY amount of time means you did great things for Eleanor AND you didn't fail. Even if you had decided NOT to breastfeed, you wouldn't be a bad parent...it's about making the right choices for your mental health, too. Coz if mommy's a mess, so is baby (Ask Orion about yesterday....it was a disaster, lol).

I think you're a fantastic parent. Eleanor looks healthy and happy. And I know I don't see you everyday but I'm not sure that matters. You guys look at each other like you love each other and that matters.

BTW, I didn't buy Josh anything for Christmas. We decided just to take the money we would have spent on each other and spend it on ourselves. So, "I" bought him a bunch of books he wanted from Amazon and "he" bought me some books and DVDs from Amazon. :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
