Guys, the movie's back on!

My predictions?
  1. None of the myriad petitions to save SG-1 will actually succeed. Fans will be forced to accept that maybe a run of TEN YEARS isn't actually the same as being cheated out of an opportunity to redeem one's not-so-hot ratings.

  2. With SG-1 gone, Eureka will be the newest edition to SciFi Friday. Once the network wises up to the fact that it NEEDS the anchor of BSG in its lineup if it wants its other shows to perform as well as they did in the past, Eureka will get shifted to 8PM, BSG will stay at 10, and Atlantis will thus be bookended at 9 by two strong-on-their-own shows as it goes into Season 4 on its own two legs. For the first time in, like, forever(?), SciFi Friday will actually be a land of three radically different scifi conceits. (OKAY, so perhaps Eureka and the Stargate franchise do have similarities. Still different!)

  3. Atlantis "Progeny"/"Real World" spoilers! The Orii will turn out to be some form or evolution of those replicators/proto-replicators, thus saving everyone (the writers) from having to explain where those bad guys went at the end of SG-1.

  4. Amanda Tapping will get a new gig on Atlantis. This will create the following:
    • the appearance of a strong female character base, to appease those "handful" female viewers like myself who aren't necessarily dazzled by Teyla's boobs in quite the same way as the writers
    • an opportunity for Rodney to be annoying to someone other than John Sheppard
    • a situation in which SG-1 writers will not be obligated to bring Sam/Jack to anything resembling a decent resolution in either direction, even if the relatively plausible "Sam quits the military and goes to Atlantis as a consultant" thing isn't completely out of the question under these terms
There you go.

atlantis, stargate
