BSG query
The Secret Service guys that we see around Laura in "Colonial Day," what would be a good name for them besides Secret Service? I hesitate to just call them Secret Service, despite the fact that they act like them and dress like them and talk into their wrists like them, because I feel like I'm importing enough into this fic as is (par example, drinking martinis and watching opera). But "personal guard" sounds too scifi-y and "bodyguards" makes me think of Kevin Costner...
This is the hardest part about writing BSG fic, I think. At one point do obviously "Earth" references and phrases and the like throw you out of the fic? Because, yes, it's very much like our own culture and a writer therefore gets a lot more wiggle room than, say, writing about Aeryn and the Peacekeepers, but it's still NOT OUR UNIVERSE. I mean, they have space travel, but they also listen to Frank Sinatra and have television. But they don't say "fuck." Where do you draw the line?
