Wow...I had to catch my breath after that. I could elaborate, but suffice it to say I agree with everything you just said.

I totally agree that they were talking about Brennan and I think that the title of his book only confirmed it.

You've hit the nail on the head.

THEY ARE BOTH AWARE OF THEIR LOVE, BUT ONLY ONE STRUGGLES WITH IT. THE OTHER IS PATIENT.

HI!! I just happened upon your post and OMG!!! DUDE, this ep KILLED ME! I am kind of NOT diggin the ambiguity because I can see it both ways.

Brennan giving him her heart with her hanky in the pocket, him with his hand over his heart...like...she's his heart. And then that Bones: heart of the matter dealio

I'm all confuzzled.

Just...saying. lOL

At first I was thinking that Booth was the one who struggled, and perhaps Bones was just oblivious, but now I'm leaning toward Bones struggling and Booth being patient. You guys have changed my thinking through the power of large capital letters :)

NGL, I squeed very loudly when Stephen Fry appeared on-screen. I didn't even know he was doing another episode. Stephen Fry is possibly the best human being on Earth. No, really.

I re-watched it, and have totally talked myself out of it! I mean - I think MY JUSTIFICATION holds up, you know, AS A JUSTIFICATION OF A THEORY, but then I saw it again, and... Booth puts his hand on his heart! And I can't tell if that's supposed to mean "oh, so she gets it" (i.e., she's the struggler) or, simply, I AM THE STRUGGLER. Yet even before that, when it was just Sweets and Gordon Gordon, I just had this feeling he was talking about Brennan. Partially because he has so known what was what since the Sully drama of S2; it's to the point where I want to rewatch that episode and prove to myself that the advice he gives her about the situation - about her not wanting to lead ~a purposeless life~ - is... well, not so much bullshit, but not the full truth. SHE DOESN'T WANT TO LEAD A PURPOSELESS LIFE BECAUSE BOOTH GIVES HER LIFE PURPOSE, is what that actually meant ( ... )

I do have to say that the thing that doesn't work for me about Bones being the struggler is that Gordon Gordon said the person struggles with it every day and I really don't think Bones would put that much thought into it. Like, I don't see her being that self-aware of her feelings toward Booth yet. She just seems oblivious, whereas with Booth you get the very real sense that he doesn't just care for her as a friend and partner, but also as a potential love interest. And thus I can see him struggling with his love for her, or at least struggling to hide it and be patient and wait for the day that she returns his feelings. Now, if Bones were to realize that her feelings for Booth were "love", then I could see her struggling with it as that wouldn't normally fit into her preconceived notions of human behavior or whatevers. Hrm, now I'm just more confused than ever ( ... )

See, and I guess I've never actually subscribed to the theory that Brennan is oblivious, per se - she just lacks either the schemata to quantify her emotions or the means in which to properly express them (which? isn't that the same thing? oh boy), which only comes out looking like obliviousness. She doesn't understand it; it doesn't conform to any rational systems she might understand, and she can't quantify it based on what she might already know; thus, she can ignore it. I guess that's how I interpreted Gordon Gordon saying she struggles with it? Whereas Booth is totally someone who can understand when he does or does not feel love for someone, the problem only being with the other person.

UGH. I AM COMING AROUND TO A NEW THEORY: YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE SURE WHO THE STRUGGLER IS. UGH, SHOW, FINE. YOU WIN.

(Hah! I only meant: he spammed the crap out of being on the Bones set with little to no spoiler warning the entire time, is all.)

I have to agree with the couple posts on the flist that I've read that think it's Bones. I would imagine that she would struggle with this so much more. First of all, from Wednesday's episode, where she is so trying to deny true love, and then at the end, admits that she wants to believe in it. (HELLO.) And I'm sure she's struggling with it on a professional level, because she doesn't want to screw up her working relationship with Booth. Oh Brennan. I love her.
