And writing a food blog, lol. I'd wanted to do a version of one for a long time when I was in Texas, wrote a lot down in a notebook, but never got it to the net...so I thought I'd just incorporate it here.
I'm a horrible snacker, and have been craving Doritos. My Mom picked up this multipack of chips a few days ago, so this evening I grabbed a bag of Doritoes from the mix, not realizing what I picked up. The flavor: Late Night Tacos at Midnight. Yes, that's certainly a mouthful, right? Now, my personal fave of Doritos is Cool Ranch, and to amp up the ranch flavor I make up some sourcream/powdered ranch dressing dip on occasion. Nacho Cheese flavor is just so-so, edible on occasion, so when I saw this bag of Tacos At Midnight, I got a little bit scared.
Well, thank goodness it's a small bag. A whole 1 oz. of pieces. I cut the top off to avoid squeakage from opening the bag, and inhaled... It's a mix of Taco Bell taco beef and Jack in The Box. Looking at the chip, it's Nacho Cheese colored, maybe just a bit more yellow/red (could be the light) than them, and it's got some black flecks.
The taste is just down right odd. Really artificial to me, and not in a good way. The aftertaste is just plain corn chip. But they're needing a little something... so I went downstairs and whipped up some sour cream and cut up a handful of my cherry tomatoes from the vines outside. Put a dollop of cream on chip, add tomato piece, and voila, they're not bad. Still not too good, but not so bad that I'll let them go to waste...it's just 1 oz of chips, lol!
They're not going to replace my taco desires at random moments (and when they happen, I normally get refried beans instead of the meat on a taco supreme), but they're interesting. I think I'll leave them for my nieces next time...they're both vaccumes, and will eat anything.
