epic rec post of doom.

Jan 03, 2011 11:45

This post has been a long time in the making. I have been telling myself to write this up for ages--and now it is actually done! XD Recs for small fandoms from the 2nd multi-fandom horror commentfic meme at sharp_teeth, Yuletide, and more. \O/ I've starred my particular favorites from sharp_teeth & YT.

From sharp_teeth:

Dark is Rising - Susan Cooper
* Watch for the Greenwitch by fulselden [alternate link @ LJ and DW]
Warnings: bad things happen to Jane in this story, without her consent.
Prompt: The offering to the Greenwitch always looks tangled and cold. Jane is cold, too.

Disney cartoons (classic)
* see you real soon by bossymarmalade [alternate link @ AOOO]
Warnings: gore, madness, cannibalism
Prompt: There's not enough paint to go around anymore now that cartoons are computerized. Donald leaves smudges of white and orange wherever he goes. Pluto melted long ago, and Mickey only has half an ear. They try to redraw themselves with what they can, but is it worth it anymore?

Firefly
What You Eat, You Are by elvenpiratelady [alternate link @ LJ]
Warnings: character death
Prompt: It's cold out in the black. Sometimes you get lonely. Sometimes... you just get awful hungry.

Jeeves and Wooster - P. G. Wodehouse
* Jeeves and the Creature of the Night by fulselden [alternate link @ LJ and DW]
Warnings: character death, decapitation, newts
Prompt: Bertie is bitten by a vampire, as he toddles home from the Drones Club one jolly evening, a trifle the worse for wear. Since recoiling away from the first blush of rosy-fingered Dawn is perfectly normal for any chap who's spent the best part of the night imbibing unspeakable amounts of gin, he does not immediately perceive the change which has come upon him...

King Lear - Shakespeare
* Made Ripe for Death By Eld by fulselden [alternate link @ LJ and DW]
Warnings: massive amounts of sexism, anti-Catholic bigotry
Prompt: Fear not the storm. Fear the bright light that appears in the midst of it. (Bonus points for creepy Cordelia.)

Magic School Bus
* On the Ice by elvenpiratelady [alternate link @ LJ]
Warnings: swearing, mentions of children meeting horribly vague fates, a couple of children meeting horribly specific fates, Miss Frizzle being unsettling
Prompt: They are on a field trip learning about the tundra when it all goes horribly wrong.

Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly
how it wiggled inside her by faorism [alternate link @ LJ]
Warnings: bestiality
Prompt: They stared and laughed when she swallowed the spider. How it wiggled and wriggled and tickled inside her.

Phantom Tollbooth - Norton Juster
* Subtraction Stew by ptelefolone
Warnings: Disturbing imagery
Prompt: Milo has eaten too much subtraction stew.

Pushcart War - Jean Merrill
* By Hand by ferricent
Warnings: none
Prompt: Frank the Flower says he shot down all 18,991 trucks, but there was only a couple of minutes between the flat tire at one intersection and another flat tire 177 blocks away. People say he had a helicopter, or that the second one really was due to a nail. Frank the Flower just smiles.

Secret Garden - Frances Burnett
Trenches by newredshoes [alternate link @ AOOO]
Warnings: none
Prompt: What does the robin want to show Mary? What's behind the wall?

Sherlock (BBC)
untitled by maryaminx
Warnings: choose not to warn
Prompt: A severed head isn't the only thing in John and Sherlock's fridge.

I was so lucky to have several of my prompts filled--SO MUCH SQUEEING on my part, I cannot even begin to describe my glee. Oh, sharp_teeth, thank you for shattering my childhood stories and piecing them back together in the creepiest of ways--I enjoyed it all! ♥

20th Century Boys
21st Century Girls by springgreen
[spoilers for entire series] Because girl groups, childhood games, henshin pens, secret passwords, and shoujo manga can save the world. "There was something about the pen encircled by the ring, something that reminded her of summer days trying to keep her red bean popsicle from dripping over the manga she was reading, of lurking in the air-conditioned apartment and spying on the adults for reasons she had long since forgotten."

Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Abridged) by sexybee
Like many of you, the Reduced Children's Classics Publishing group has recently heard a lot of stories in the news about how kids don't like reading the classics anymore. And that's just wrong. Because the classics of children's literature are cornerstones of our education, bastions of our culture, the pinnacles of imagination, and, more importantly, free of royalties to some stupid author. So we have decided to try to win back today's young people with our fresh, hip, modern take on the beloved stories of yesteryear.

'The Kids Aren't All Right' by Christine Everhart (vanityfair.com) by samdonne
[movieverse] PG. "It’s been 'a hell of a year' since industrialist Tony Stark owned up to his alter ego in a move that stunned observers and longtime aides alike. With the US facing unprecedented homegrown suicide attacks, Iron Man's contribution to national security is more than ever under scrutiny. As she follows Stark during a year of crisis, exclusively for Vanity Fair, Christine Everhart explores the many contradictions of the man behind the mask, uncovers tales of personal loyalty, patriotism gone awry and corporate betrayal, and asks whether Iron Man is the embodiment of an outdated American fantasy-a self-made, unilateral, technological solution to hopelessly complex problems-and whether he can survive the violent encounter with reality."
