It has been since my venture into the AP 2-D Design world in high back...back nearly 2 years ago now, that I have done any art work.
This semester, I ended up taking Drawing I just for the heck of it.
Ended up getting a great teacher, Ms. G, and meeting some really great friends in there.
This one assignment that we had to do was to be done on colored paper using charcoal only.
Most of the class did an object found in the class like a shell, or a boot, or a chair. I ended up trying to draw what Ms. G called "the most challenging piece to use; good for those who want a little challenge" It was a head that is made just for drawing.
I finished it and she loved it.
About a week later, she made an annoucment to the class about the upcoming annual art show, and every art student is able to enter up to 3 pieces that could go on to be in the show, and if it is really good it can go on to be in the finals that will be judged by a professional artist who will give out schloarships to the winners of "best in show" and such awards.
I had nothing to lose, so I entered the piece of the head, a piece of three manequins, and another piece about a cows skull.
I was right in the middle of drawing for another assignment (and right in the middle of a great conversation with my very cute friend) when Ms.G says "Dana, can I see you in my office for a second?"
She wasn't supposed to tell me, but "you have been entered into the finals for the art show. The entire art department-all the teachers came together and voted on the pieces, and they all voted for yous! You are the only Drawing I student to do that. I don't remember a student in Drawing I getting in. Every other student who is in the finals is a senior about to graduate!"
I was blown away!
The art show started yesterday, which is when they would announce the winners of the schloarships.
Now, I did not get any physical award; the competition was amazing, but just the fact that my piece that I didn't like all that much to begin with, is framed and hanging in the school art gallery, and that I am the only Drawing I student to do that, is INCREDIBLE to me!
Here is a picture of my piece framed.
I don't think this is an all that great piece, but I sure am proud of it!
And yes, there was a piece priced $2,000. I didn't think it was worth $2....
So they really know how to end a semester here!
PLUS.
About 6 of my friends and I are going out on Monday for lunch to a place that offers MACARRONI AND CHEESE PIZZA.
What?!
