Went tonight to the DIS Fan Fest.
At first it was almost a waste of money, because everything seemed to be closed up by the time we got there.
Then they did a fan/driver forum.
Newman.
Kenseth.
Petty.
Hamlin.
Schrader.
It was so funny.
Took a bunch of pictures of those great guys.
Then we decided to take the "Fast Lap".
3 laps around DIS.
They say they were to go 120-125MPH around the track, not bad, so we went in line and did it.
Get in the car and right away started joking around with the guy behind the wheel.
"Go as fast as possible and get as close to the wall as you can!"
He ended up taking us 140MPH almost on top of the wall! WOOOOOO!!!
I told him in turn 4, please don't pull an Earnhardt.....I am going to hell for that, I know it.
It was absolutely incredible.
Bumby as heck!
But on the 3rd lap he slowed down as went on the high part of the track to show exactly what the banking is like.
WHAT?!?!?!
We were almost on the side of the car - I don't know how it didn't come tumbling down the track!!
As we are leaving, we see a group of people around one person.
Jeremy Mayfield.
I grabbed our tickets from my dad and squeezed my way up to the front of the line.
He was so nice to sign both tickets for me. Plus I was the last he signed for!
Go Jeremy!
So we start walking now and I see to the right of me a guy in a button down red shirt thats says "Rousch Racing" on it.
You don't think anything of it, heck everyone there has a team shirt on.
So then a car pulls up next to him and asks "Hey David, do you need a ride?" ..."No, No, I am parked right there. Thank you very much though."
Whatever, I keep walking.
So then a lady yells "DAVID! SIGN THIS PLEASE!!!"
So I immediately stopped, SCREEEECCCCHHH. Turn to him and ask him to sigh the same tickets.
That nice lady let us borrow her marker too. (Thank you nice lady!)
So I told him, "David you're the best! Good luck this season!" (I didn't know who it was mind you)
So as we walk away I ask my dad, "Who just signed our ticket?"
Turns out it was a David Ragan who took over for Mark Martin.
So we walk some more.
Some cars start driving by us. (We are in the infield) So I start looking in the cars.
"There goes Jeff Burton."
"There goes Elliott Sadler."
"There's Mike Bliss."
'NO! CARLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!"
Carl Edwards drives by us and I just scream "CARLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!"
He slows down and looks real quick in his side mirror, looks back at me, starts laughing with a BIG smile and waves out the window.
(I wish I could have gotten an autograph, but I understand he just wanted to get home!)
What a night.
WHOO!!
New tradition started tonight!
I can't stop looking at my pictures! LOL.
I would like to leave with a small moment to remember Benny Parsons who lost his short battle with lung cancer today.
Yet another example of how the Good Die Young.
July 12, 1941 - January 16, 2007
Also to the Wallace family:
"Shortly after Parsons passing Wallace’s father-in-law Charlie Poole died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 61.
'This day has not been a good day for me. In six days you have Bobby Hamilton die, Benny Parsons, and my father-in-law…'" said Kenny Wallace
I am sorry.
