I was blue, just as blue as I could be
Ev'ry day was a cloudy day for me
Then good luck came a-knocking at my door
Skies were gray but they're not gray anymore
     ("Blue Skies" by Irving Berlin)

The climb up the mountain trail would have been tough in good weather. Even moreso with a clinging fog he was suspecting was magical and left him soaked to the skin. Zelgadis could barely see his own hand, let alone Amelia and Lina's lights. And he was falling behind.

He wasn't sure why he was here anyway. Maybe going to odd places to look for magical relics was a hell of a habit to kick. For that matter, so was trailing after Lina Inverse whenever she crossed her path. He could tell himself it was because Prince Phil had offered to pay him to bodyguard Amelia again, but there wasn't a shortage of good mercenary jobs.

"Mister Zelgadis!" Amelia's voice came from ahead and above. "There's one last rise, then we're at the summit!"

"Right." The trail turned into a boulder field, and he had to scramble over damp rocks to gain twenty feet. It was like climbing out of the ocean as he stuck his head above the fog and pulled himself up. Lina, Gourry and Amelia were waiting for him. Amelia offered a hand, despite the fact he would be more likely to pull her down than her pull him up.

The sky was blue when they had climbed out of the clouds, and he could see springs of green covering the marble-white ruins on the summit. Amelia straightened up as he stood up, but left her hand out. He took it. "Well, now that we're all up, let's go!" Lina said, motioning them on. "There should be all kinds of treasure and secrets in here."

Right. That was why he kept doing things like this. The company.
