A/N: Trying to get one more in before the event is over. Title is from 'Young Blood,' by The Naked and Famous.

Karrin had once had some of the mysteries of the universe laid out for her in a Wal-Mart Supercenter McDonald’s, over stale coffee, by a man she had known for a long time and hadn’t known very well at all.

Of course she had doubted his fantastic claims, as any sane person would - there’s no such thing as magic or wizards or vampires or werewolves, but everyone’s allowed to put as much faith they want into whatever they want, whether it be magic or unicorns or the legal system.

He had, in the calm, steady voice of someone explaining how to work an algebra problem, confirmed and then proved everything she had always suspected but never acknowledged...except in denial.

Denied, even when faced with the snarling, slavering truth. Even though she had seen inexplicable things, beautiful and terrible things.

…Mostly terrible, but that was par for the course with humanity.

And just as calmly, she had accepted the fact that moving alongside her reality was another darker, unimaginable realm, and she had one foot in the door.

It was like living in two places at once, a permanent state of in-between, both the sudden shift it seemed and a slow adjustment - she had dove headfirst into the water and was still trying to stay afloat in a world where simply believing in things made them real.
