Summary: My first P&P fic (and first in a series of what I think will be three drabbles, collectively titled "Glances"). Based on my favorite moment from the 1995 miniseries.
Everything happens quicker than thought: Caroline’s cutting remark, Georgiana’s start, the false chord. Darcy half-rises in alarm, but already Elizabeth is at his sister’s side, bending solicitously over her, murmuring apologies.
As Georgiana settles down, Elizabeth’s eyes lift to his, conveying silent reassurance: Don’t worry, she will be all right. There are a seriousness and a sweetness in her look that make his heart turn over. He has never seen laughing, lighthearted Elizabeth look like that. He gazes back, hoping she can see his gratitude, wondering if she can also see that she has fettered him more firmly than ever.
