Summary: It’s the evening after their wedding and already he’s starting to feel guilty.
It happened so quickly it was almost spontaneous. There's still a calm and rational part of his brain screaming out at horror in what he’s just done, but in the meantime his heart is exploding with the joy of it all. It’s the kind of thing that he’s sure would never happen- not to someone like him. He'd almost not believe it save for the small golden ring on his hand and fingers intertwined with his own- both very constant and physical reminders of what is real.
The day is transforming everything into a memory. Little unimportant things, like the buttons on her cloak and his new secondhand shoes have become instantly precious.
The slightly cold, drizzly weather? Charming. The man selling cashews on the street corner? A fond friend.
The specific shade of green in Tonks’ hair will live on in his mind forever.
It was too impromptu a ceremony to have even planned ahead for that evening. They simply walked to the nearest hotel and asked the price for a room. Then they left, apparating to the Motel down the street, sheepishly consoling one another, and laughing at the insane amount of difference there was between an H and an M. He asks the man at the desk for their best room and in return he takes them to the only one available- the cockroach filled shoebox known as number thirteen.
Suddenly Remus’ mind crashes back to earth.
His wife is telling him to excuse her a moment while she puts on something ‘more comfortable.’ Her eyes are dancing, and despite her neon colored eyebrows, she’s never looked more beautiful. But as she shuts the door, he feels nothing but shame.
…right down to the ugly, worn out souls of his shoes.
