Title: Stick to Your Knitting
Author: perletwo
Prompt: #5, hats and mittens
Fandom: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011 movie)
Characters & Pairings: Peggy Carter
Rating & Warnings: G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Peggy has a moment of regret.

American naivete amazed Peggy Carter. So many believed the Japanese caught them flatfooted with Pearl Harbor, when she knew their finest military minds had been braced for entrée to war for years.

The war effort was ready to mobilize, tightly planned and compartmentalized. For most women, their role was to knit endless miles of khaki yarn into soldiers’ comfort for Europe’s winters. Peggy had escaped the needles for a more proactive war effort.

She never regretted it. But when she lost Steve Rogers, she wished she’d spent those years up to her ears in woolens for men she’d never meet.
