There is a moment, halfway into this insanity, when she realizes that if she leaves now, she can never return.
The moment comes when she sneaks, like a thief, through the night, across the courtyard of her childhood home. She can hear snores from the armory, and, nearby, the rustle of clothing and a soft moan. Instead of feeling awkward, she feels excited, moving sure-footed and stealthy, like the four-footed sigil of her noble house.
There is a moment when she thinks this is it, when she knows she can no longer call this place home.
The moment occurs in the godswood, standing underneath the red leaves of her family’s heart tree. Around her, Winterfell sleeps on, save the lone sentries posted at the gate. Her father, her brothers, her septa - all of them sleep underneath furs, completely unawares. She should be sleeping too, but she cannot.
There is a moment where she thinks what will happen to me?
It occurs as she weaves her way through the undergrowth on the far side of the woods. She almost trips, just once, but she recovers her balance and continues on. Her fears linger in the back of her mind, in the way she pictures the faces of her family, in the cold of the northern night. She is frightened at giving up everything she knows for this.
There is a moment when she realizes how right everything is.
He waits for her at the edge of the woods. He wears a cloak, like her, but his silver hair is loose and shining in the moonlight. If possible, his smile shines even more as he lifts her onto his mount and they ride, breathless, the walls of Winterfell falling away behind them.
