First off, thank you to those who sent me messages and virtual hugs over the loss of my dog Racket. Your comments meant a lot.
She is sorely missed. She was such a good and beautiful girl. I'm so happy that I had her as long as I did. And I'm happy I could give her peace. I stayed with her until the very end. I was the last person she got to see and the last voice she heard and I am so thankful I could give her that - my sweet, beautiful and loyal puppy.
She ran and met me at the door when I came home every day until she couldn't anymore.
She was the runt of the litter when I chose her as my own, her brothers and sisters being three times her size. (She could literally fit into the palm of my hand). However, despite this, she was the only one of her litter to survive into adulthood. While I mourned her siblings and felt bad for their people, I always took such pride in that fact. That of all the puppies, she was the one best looked after even though her chances of survival were the least likely.
Sixteen years is a good, long run. I'm blessed that she spent them with me.

As for school -- this made my day today.
The only thing I changed was my name and the name of a character mentioned in my instructor's review.

I got 100% in my creative writing class. I won't go into all the comments, but here are the highlights:
Creative Non-Fiction: This is just so wonderful. I love this assignment because it challenges people to step away from the first person (most people's default choice for point of view) esp. in a piece where "I" would make good sense. Your piece doesn't just accept this challenge--it does it so effectively!
Fiction: Day. . . what can I say? They are just so strong. You've got a fabulous voice (my personal favorite element), but more impressively, you're not just a one trick (element) pony--you use all of them so masterfully. If I could pass on one lesson to you, it would be--in all honesty, Day--your writing deserves readers. Please keep submitting. I look forward to reading about // character name // in print one day and bragging to people, "Hey! I know the woman who wrote this!"
