Once more, in the headlines...
...is gay marriage. I really, REALLY wish people could not be such idiots.
Fact: Civil unions provide the legal benefits of marriage.
Fact: Marriage by church/religion is separate from legal married status.
Fact: The gay marriage people are referring to IS religious, not for legal purposes.
Fact: The grand majority of Americans don't give a flying rat's ass about civil unions between same sex couples.
Fact: The same people arguing against same-sex marriage also believe in separation of church and state.
Do the math. I get pissed to no end when I see this issue presented as an issue. Especially one that gets Amendment proposals, law proposals, and legal battles over it. Civil unions are a government issue. Marriage is a RELIGIOUS issue. The people who should be addressing gay marriage is not the government, but the heads, bodies, and members of every church, synagogue, mosque, and place of worship for their individual belief system. But each religion, instead of giving any form of decision, has basically taken a "let the government handle it" policy. WHA?!?! Am I the only one who's blood pressure is rising here?
