With the Oscars given out, it is now offically the end of awards season. Don't worry, we'll be back there in no time flat as Sundance has already happened which will usher in the other film fests which will give us potential award nominees and we'll do this dance once again.
I was pretty sure I had all the awards figured out but I was shocked by the dominance of PARASITE. Loved the film, it was definitely my pic for Best Picture but I was sure 1917 would win the technical awards and Sam Mendes Best Director.
Who were the winners of the
Best Motion Picture
Parasite
Best Director
Bong Joon Ho
Best Actress
Renee Zellweger
Best Supporting Actress
Laura Dern
**With her mama Diane Ladd
Best Supporting Actor
Brad Pitt
Best Actor
Joaquin Phoenix
**Getting his award engraved with mother Alma.
**There's a scene in “Pain and Glory” where Antonio Banderas' character was instructing his actor to not cry in the scene because trying to keep from crying draws more emotion from the audience and not that Joaquin was acting at all, but damn, if his stammering when he was bringing up River didn't make tears spring to my eyes. It was heartrending.
Also, how old am I that there are people who are just now realizing Joaquin and River were brothers. How can they know River but not know that he was Joaquin's brother?? How many Phoenixes are there in the world, let alone in the industry?
Also, people need to let others have their truths. People were tweeting, "Wow, Joaquin was raised in a cult and was likely assaulted and that's why he's the way he is." He's said repeatedly that they were out of the cult before any of that went down or left when they began hearing rumors about it. That nothing happened to them and that, no, River didn't lose his virginity as a little kid. But people turn around and say that he's lying to protect his family. It's his life, he should know what happened in it. And maybe he doesn't know the whole story but people have got to stop believing they know other people's lives better than they do just so they can have a narrative of 'poor, exploited child actor'.
Best Adapted Screenplay
Taika Waititi (JoJo Rabbit adapted from the novel
**It was very fitting that Taika was presented his Oscar by Timothee Chalamet
..as Taika recently directed Armie Hammer in “Next Goal Wins” and Armie hosted a screening of “JoJo Rabbit”.
Best Original Screenplay
Bong Joon Ho (Parasite)
Best Cinematography
Roger Deakins, 1917 *I think I fancy Deakins now. He has a bit of Bill Nighy cool cat going on.
Best Visual Effects
1917 **I went with “Avengers: Endgame” on this because so much was talked about practical effects that I thought this category was more about Special Effects, which upon reflection, it had quite a bit of.
Best International Feature
Parasite **Don't think it's fair one film can compete in two Best Picture categories. I really thought PARASITE would get Best Film so that PAIN AND GLORY or LES MISERABLES would take this category.
Best Film Editing
Ford. v. Ferrari / Les Mans 66
Best Production Design
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Best Costume Design
Jacqueline Durran, Little Women **Pure trash.
Makeup and Hairstyling
Kazu Hiro, Anne Morgan and Vivian Baker / Bombshell **Well deserved. Charlize Theron's transformation to Megyn Kelly was uncanny thanks to contouring and other subtle tricks.
Animated Feature Film
Toy Story 4
Animated Short
Hair Love
Sound Editing
Ford. V. Ferrari / Le Mans 66
Sound Mixing
1917 **There was talk about doing away with one of these categories because people don't really know the difference between the two and usually the same film wins both, but obviously people can tell the difference sometimes.
Original Score
Hildur Gudnadottir, JOKER
Original Song
(I”m Gonna) Love Me Again - Elton John, Bernie Taupin **Look, it's not the best song, but it sure as hell is better than the other nominees, especially that FROZEN 2 song which is horrible in any language.
And I'm really salty that Taron Egerton couldn't perform with Elton I'm guessing because of time constraints but they let Eminem return for LOSE YOURSELF. It's only the 18th anniversary of the song. You don't see them trotting out Phil Collins for the 20th anniversary of "You'll Be In My Heart" but then again, unlike Em, Collins doesn't have a cd to promote.
2020
2001
Salma and Em looking like they've been caught by her husband
Documentary Feature
American Factory **People thought it was only nominated because it is co-produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, but it is a great documentary. A bit too far-reaching, but I loved it.
Documentary Short Subject
Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl), Carol Dysinger, Elena Andreicheya
Live Action Short Film
The Neighbors' Window, Marshall Curry
It's a good thing that there were Oscar winners because to me there weren't very many fashion winners. Like. At all.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Louis Vuitton
Catherine O'Hara
Ciara
Megalyn Echukunwoke
Tracee Ellis Ross in Zuhair Muhad
Emily Ratajkowski
Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) in Cristian Siriano
**She's a little kid so I have nothing to say, but don't come back wearing something like this in 5 years - then it's on.
Dean-Charles Chapman in Celine. George MacKay in Dunhill
**I just found out his last name is pronounced “Mc-KEYE”. What in the Gaelig??
Zazie Beetz in Thom Browne
Billy Porter in Giles Deacon
America Ferrera in Alberta Ferretti
**Looking a little Sacheen Littlefeather.
Sigourney Weaver in Dior

Roman Griffin Davis and Archie Yates of JOJO RABBIT

Kerry Washington
Antonio Baderas, his girlfriend and daughter Stella
Rebel Wilson in Jason Wu
**With someone with a pronounced forehead I just really want to pull her hair forward. I can teach her my technique.
Greta Gerwig in Dior
Oliva Colman in Stella McCartney
Sandra Oh in Elie Saab (Oscars and Vanity Fair looks
**You could try to tell me that Sandra Oh isn't the reincarnation of some 50s actress but I won't believe you. If she isn't being inhabited by the spirit of some Golden Age of Hollywood ghost why does she dress like this??
Ava DuVernay
Maya Rudolph in Valentino
**She needs to go back to wearing formfitting clothes because when she dresses like that I invariably assume she's pregnant again since she's popped out 18 kids with PT Anderson.
Salma Hayek in Gucci
Natalie Portman in Dior
**Her cape is engraved with the name of female directors shut out of Oscars including Greta Gerwig and “Queen and Slim”s Melina Matsoukas
Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson
Margot Robbie in Chanel
Kristen Wiig in Valentino
**If it didn't have the trailing hem and if the sides were closer to the dress it would have been in my top picks.
Lucy Boynton in Chanel and Rami Malek in Yves St. Laurent
Brie Larson in Celine
Spike Lee honoring Kobe Bryant
Saoirse Ronan in Gucci
**Someone tweeted that the entire LITTLE WOMEN cast dressed terribly to protest Greta Gerwig not being nominated for Best Director.
Nightwatchman Timothee Chalamet in Prada with a Cartier brooch
**Timothee fans were all atwitter trying to figure out what he was going to wear. In 2018 when he wore a bib to the Golden Globes
fans speculated what the back looked like and if it was backless as they believed. Out of the blue last week he posted the picture of how it looked
as well as posted a picture from a photoshoot of him in a corset.
So fans believed he was going to show up and show out at the Oscars and he hit them up with mechanic chic instead.
Gal Gadot in Givenchy
Scarlett Johannson in Oscar De La Renta
Florence Pugh in Louis Vuitton
Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen
