I gave up on The Suicide Squad about an hour in. I was willing to let the Egyptians take Manhattan or whatever that town was. All the possibilities that the movie had were wasted or worse, not even considered. Amanda Waller was the only "character" in the film. Everyone else was just makeup and a stunt double. Even Will Smith couldn't charm his way out of this Mess. Although, Joe McKinnon should have gone shirtless for the film and I might have lasted longer. What was Jokey about The Joker? He just looked like a middled aged green haired goth guy with bad teeth and worse gums. Margot Robie was good at playing a 14 year old high school girl who decided to give up organized softball for rebellion and kool aide hair dye. But there should have been more for her, like a character to play, and there wasn't.
This movie was a BIG BORE!
I enjoyed Florence Foster Jenkins. It was just a well done movie on an interesting subject---Art and its Pretensions and Delusions and Essential Truth. Yes, Florence was self-deluded as to her own talent (money solved her lack of talent), but like Darger and The Vivian Girls there was something in her (and his obsession) that spoke to the artists' audiences. The artist just does the work and starves alone or feeds in herds accordingly. I think that movie did touch on the Community of Art and hinted at the Obsession that it causes in its Artist and even in its Audience (they do call us FanGirls for a reason). I thought that Hugh Grant took the acting honors in the movie. He actually seemed like a decent man, and I believed that he was.

I do find it amusing that they tried to sell Ben Hur to the so-called "Christian" crowd in the US. Aren't they paying attention these days? A lot of those self-called "Christians" are anti-Semitic among their other peculiarities. And Jesus isn't really their concern. Jesus just doesn't look "right". Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

What was Jokey about The Joker?
The joke was that crybaby Leto complained about his scenes being cut as if The Joker was relevant to the plot. Dude, you have an Oscar, be happy with that.

Margot Robie was good at playing a 14 year old high school girl who decided to give up organized softball for rebellion and kool aide hair dye. But there should have been more for her, like a character to play, and there wasn't.
Unfortunately there's not much there there with Harley except to play off of others and her relationship with the Joker is so, like the kids say, problematic, that if they kept that in there'd be umpteen op-ed pieces about DC hating women. So we get Harley Quinn as Toni Basi in "O Mickey".

I was waiting for the shoe to drop and find out that St.Clair was a grafter but he and those few others truly connected with her and saw something in the imperfection. I've been watching the BTS videos for Barbra Streisand's new CD where every single person fawn over her and in Hugh Jackman's he talks about Barbra loving the truth in the song. So it might not be the right note/key but she's looking for truth. And I think there is beauty in someone who earnestly believes in what they're performing no matter how it sounds.

I really thought St.Clair was paying everyone $2 to see her. She really touched that community--at least the ones who weren't there just to be in her circle.

The only good thing about this film was seeing modern!Jack cos I've only seen him in period pieces (Boardwalk Empire, Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, How to Kill Your Darlings).
