San Diego Comic Con 2015: The Nerd-ening...

Jul 22, 2015 03:23

San Diego Comic Con came and went.

“Smallville” alums who attended includes

Michael Rosenbaum, who lost his SDCC virginity for his new TVLand series “Impastor”.

Tyler Posey of “Teen Wolf”
*With show’s creator Jeff Davis and cast members Dylan Sprayberry and Cody Christian.

Laura Vandervoort for “Bitten”

Adrienne Palicki for “Agents of SHIELD” ,
*That skirt/shirt combo makes me wish she was just wearing lingerie. That would make more sense than that combo.

writer Caroline Dries supporting “The Vampire Diaries”, director David Nutter supported “Game of Thrones” and producer Jeph Loeb supported "Heroes Reborn".

While not pictured, Al Gough and Miles Millar did panel for their new MTV series "The Shannara Chronicles"

cast members Austin Butler, Manu Bennett and John Rhys-Davies,

Amy Adams for “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”,
*With Gal Gadot

and The League of Clark Kent haters
*Adam Knight, Jason Teague and Lucas Luthor supporting “The Vampire Diaries and SPN

“Game of Thrones” alums on hand:

David Bradley, the dastardly Walder Frey supporting “The Strain”,

Thomas Brodie-Sangster for “The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials”,

Elyes Gabel for CBS’ “Scorpion”

and, Adewale Akkinouye-Agbage for “The Suicide Squad”,

Ed Skrein #1 Daario Naharis supporting “Deadpool”.

Too bad Nonso Anozie wasn’t on hand for the CBS series “Zoo” panel.

Zoo cast: James Wolk, Billy Burke, Kristen Connolly and Nora Arnezeder

Or Mark Gatiss (banker of Braavos) who sat out the “Sherlock” panel.

“Sherlock”s co-creator Steven Moffat , writer Sue Vertue and Rupert Graves

Rockstar panels at Comic Con included the WB slate and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" panel.

Now kiss!

The Force Awakens cast

Attendees to the Star Wars panel were escorted by Storm Troopers to an outdoor concert with the San Diego Orchestra playing the John Williams’ Star Wars score .

The downside to the panel? Kevin Smith, a die-hard Star Wars fan, was holding a panel in Hall H right afterwards so not only did he miss the concert, but he was playing to only about two thousand people in the cavernous Hall H.

But he shouldn’t feel bad. He had his daughter, actress Harley Quinn Smith with him.

Smith cast Harley and Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily Rose in a movie

Lily Rose and brother Jack

Other Stuff and Thangs:

Hannibal
“Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller made his old “Star Wars” blanket into a jacket.

*I’m showing my age. My cousin had that blanket …actually it’s a quilt. It was so soft.

Hugh Dancy and Richard Armitage sporting it

NBC axed “Hannibal” and Fuller hoped that Netflix would pick it up, but I guess Netflix is tired of picking up network’s castoffs because they and Amazon passed on “Hannibal” as well as ABC’s “Forever” which hoped for a revival on the platform.

No more flower crowns

While the creator of “Forever” has closed the door on shopping it around, Fuller hopes to make a feature-length version. I hope it doesn’t take years or won’t be as terrible as his feature length “Dead Like Me”.

Oh well, no “Hannibal” - “Pushing Daisies” reunion for Lee Pace and Kristin Chenowith

Comic Con took place earlier this year than in the past so usually during the “Game of Thrones” panel a reel of new characters are introduced, but since it’s still early in production an audition reel of current and past cast was shown instead.

I haven’t watched the GoT panel because, no offense to the lovely panelists, but they are the B-squad.

No representative from Dany’s story (namely Jorah, my amore-ah)? No Lannisters? I can understand why Lena Headey wasn’t there; she just popped out a little girl. But no Boltons? No Loras who goes to every podunk convention?

that is, when he’s not getting all duded up in gilded clobber for fancy events

No send off for Mopey (who has still not cut his hair and was seen in Belfast where the show is shooting, thus giving hope that Jon will return in S6).

Not forgotten

The A Squad

But it’s Game of Thrones so I love them

The only happy couple in Westeros

Something I want to get in the sea (my favorite new expression which is a gentler way of saying “go drown yourself”) are interviewers asking actors about shipping. Conan O’Brien did this when he interviewed James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender who are returning as Charles “Professor X” Xavier and Erik “Magneto” Lansherr in “X-Men: Apocalypse”.

Cherik

Erik, Charles and their first born Hank
*Or McAvoy, Fassbender and Nicky Hoult

Sir Ian and Patrick Stewart has this on lock, fellas
*With Patrick’s wife Sonni providing the third party.

And, yes, they’ve finally gone there and shaved McAvoy’s lovely locks for Professor X.

His hair was so lovely

The headscratcher of SDCC was the absence of Disney/Marvel in any real way (though it's been revealed that Disney did save their wares for their nascent D23 Expo). Yet, there were panels for “X-Men”, “Fantastic Four” and “Deadpool”, which Fox owned Marvel properties.

Fox’s Marvel Universe:

Deadpool
*The day before their panel the “Deadpool” cast teased their appearance by tweeting mock-ups of themselves on Deadpool panels as they tweeted lyrics to the “Golden Girls” theme.

Introduced slightly at the end of “Wolverine: Origins”, Ryan Reynolds finally got the chance to climb into the snug read and black suit. The trailer delighted fans because they’re finally getting an R-rated comic book film. I wasn’t impressed by the trailer. The character seems very obnoxious and I think his characterization comes across better in thought bubbles than out of an actor. Though I did like a bit where Ryan’s character is preparing to undergo his transformation and he shouts to the doctor that he doesn’t want anything Green or CGI-abs, a bold dig at his “Green Lantern” film.

SDCC also formally introduced Channing Tatum to the world as Gambit, the card throwing Cajun metahuman portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in “Wolverine: Origins”. Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, also appeared to announce another standalone Wolverine story which will be the last film for Hugh as he’s hanging up the claws.

“Marvel’s Agents of Shield” and “Agent Carter” were on hand.

All the while participating in a Dubsmash war against each other.

Behold their geekiness!

AoS-er, Luke Mitchell (formerly of CW’s “The Tomorrow People” ) is amused
*I saw him at the Grove a few days ago with his wife!

My darlings Hayley Atwell and James D'Arcy

Getting beat soundly by Agents of Shield-ers is tiring

Season Two of “Agent Carter” will find the characters “Laverne & Shirley”-ing it as they implausibly move to L.A from New York. Even stinky Chad Michael Murray character.

Know who also was on hand? My favorite studio/comic book entity Warner Bros. and DC Comics!!

They’ve had the TV side covered with…

Arrow, iZombie, Flash, Gotham, Lucifer, Supergirl, Capt. Cold from Legends of Tomorrow

”Lucifer” cast

Arrow cast

iZombie cast

Supergirl’s Mechad Brook

The Flash cast

Legends of Tomorrow cast
*Most importantly Wentworth Earl Miller.

*Peter Facinelli who lost two series (“Nurse Jackie” and NBC’s “American Odyssey”) will appear on the show as Maxwell Lord. In this incarnation he’ll be a “green-tech billionaire who enjoys a friendly rivalry with Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant and a fascination with National City’s new hero, Supergirl.”

I wonder if his fiancée Jamie Alexander put in a good word for him with her “Blindspot” Executive Producer Greg Berlanti who produces “Supergirl”, “Flash” and “Arrow”.

*Characters Anarky and Mister Terrific will be coming to the show. Echo Kellum late of “Sean Saves the World” and Alexander Calvert (“The Returned”) have been cast , respectively as Mister Terrific and Anarky. Former wrestler Adam Copeland comes to Arrow as Atom Smasher and Michael Ironside will play Captain Cold’s father in “Legends of Tomorrow”. Ironside played Sam Lane on “Smallville” and Peyton List who played his daughter Lucy Lane also plays his daughter, sister of Leonard Snart on “The Flash”. And Neal McDonough will also guest star this season.

*Teddy Sears of “American Horror Story: Murder House” has been cast as Jay Garrick’s Flash.

*“Gotham” fans were offered a tease of season two when Cameron Monaghan “crashed” the panel as Jerome, the proto-Joker character introduced last season.

Cameron and “Gotham”s Bruce Wayne,David Mazouz

I remember when Jonny Lee Miller, Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Sadie Frost and Sean had a production company together and I thought it was odd that they were friends with an old guy because he just always looked older than they did. Now I see how attractive he is. Age made him better.

With co-star Cory Michael Smith

with his son Alfred (who goes by Fred)

Baby Sean w/ ma and da

Gotham cast

Erin Richards need to hide considering the character assassination of her character last season. I’m surprised she’s returning. No one likes Barbara.

WB has TV on lock and now they are getting their cinematic universe house in order. The cast of “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “The Suicide Squad” were in attendance.

When the whole squad comes through!!

Look at those Suicide Squad hooligans throwing hands in the back. My type of crew.

Although he wasn’t on hand, you can see Scott Eastwood in at least two shots in the trailer. You could also catch his presence on the arm of Joel Kinnaman whom he injured during a scene.

Thanks, Scott

I know one thing, Scott needs a dictionary.

His attempt at spelling nepotism
*being pretty is not enough, love.

Though not at Comic Con, Scott was in Toronto with the cast playing golf.
with some of the ladies of the Squad

The guys

He didn’t attend but Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot posted pictures of their meeting on Instagram

Sorry Ben, but "Suicide Squad" has the best Comic Con trailer of 2015

Yes, yes, snuggling up to Hank Cavill always cheers one up

*Not only is he the Man of Steel but he’s a dab hand at wood chopping. Guy Ritchie his “The Man from U.N.C.L.E” director posted this pic of Hank helping Guy at his cabin.

*That Henry Cavill is a fun guy. I miss beardo!Hank.

Also was he wearing shapewear at Comic Con? He looked bulkier a few weeks earlier.

*Guy is still working on “Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur” with Charlie Hunnam

Hanging out with Posh Spice and David Beckham’s son Brooklyn (to his right) who looks more like Guy than Guy’s son Rocco

Guy and Rocco

*“King Arthur” reunites Hunnam with his “Queer as Folk” costar Aiden Gillen.

None of this QAF stuff will be going on, sadly

The WB produced non-DC shows on hand were:

“The Big Bang Theory”,

“The Vampire Diaires”

King Hater L’il Ian emceed the WB panel because is devil is busy

SDCC Prom Queen and King: Katarina Graham and Michael Malarky

“The Originals”

Which included the relative show newbie Yusuf Gatewood whom I adore

Now I know where he gets his coolness from. His mom is FLY!

With mom and TV mom Sonja Sohn

The question is if Yusuf will get the love from Daniel Gillies that he gives his other mates

Daniel and Charles Michael Davis

Touchy with bro Joseph Morgan

Paul Wesley tweeted an old picture of he and Daniel captioned “ me and my girl in Italy”

And Daniel telling Michael Malarky of TVD to “take me from behind”

and of course,

“Supernatural”

There, there. I promise I’ll lose some weight this season

Pizza Hut’s social media handler has a biased love for Misha Collins because they tweeted their Mishapocalpyse concoction.

Reportedly, Misha had Pizza Hut pizza delivered to the fans who lined up early for their panel. IIRC he did this a few years ago, too.

Another surprise? A month or two ago Jared Padalecki abruptly pulled out (heh) of a convention and sent out distressing tweets that had his fans rallying around him. When Jared came out for the panel fans pulled out tea-lights candles and stood up in support of his struggle with depression.

The thank you he posted on Facebook afterwards.

A thank you.

To anybody and everybody that had ANY part whatsoever in the Always Keep Fighting Hall H tea light event.

As I travel back to Vancouver from San Diego Comic-Con, with my partners in crime Jensen Ackles and Mark Sheppard, the enormity of what happened is finally starting to sink in….

I am beyond moved.

I feel so blessed, and grateful, and honored to be a part of the magical Supernatural Family.

Sitting on that stage in Hall H, I initially mistook all of the lights for cell phone cameras. It’s difficult to discern specific shapes and faces with all of those stage lights shining on you (and, it’s quite intimidating up there, sitting in front of 6,500 people!!). Then, when I had a light given to me with an explanation of what it was and what it stood for, I was (and am still) gob-smacked.

Thank you.

From the very bottom of my heart and my soul, thank you so much.

I will never forget this day. I will never forget the love that I felt, and still feel.

And, to everybody who held a light for me, please know that I hold my light for you.

Though I happened to be the one sitting on stage, I am but one small light in a see of thousands. TOGETHER, we can and will make a difference!

Keep letting your light shine. I will do the same.

And, keep fighting.

Always Keep Fighting.

The big question is did Stephen and Jared have a key party afterwards?
