TV Fall Scheduling...

May 23, 2011 13:28

The CW Upfronts were held last week. An Upfront without “Smallville” on the schedule or any of the cast on hand. seems wrong. The loss was no more strongly felt than when I looked at pictures of the green carpet arrivals.

L’il Ian, Nina Dobrev and newly wed Paul Wesley

At a environmental event with girlfriend costar Nina Dobrev

The gals of “The Secret Circle”
*Britt Robertson of “Life UneXpected”, Jessica Parker Kennedy (Plastique, Smallville) and some other chick.

Jessica

“The Secret Circle” cast

I’ll be really disappointed if he doesn’t develop a crush on Gale.

*If there is one good thing about the upfronts it was Mr. Gale Morgan Harold III blowing Zap2It’s Carina Mackenzie’s mind with his interview.

It’s just Gale being Gale. Mr. Slim Goodbody reference and all.

Tyra Banks
*She was panned for this look, but I think she looks fantastic. I like a smart pants ensemble. It’s casual chic.

James King of “Hart of Dixie”. Maybe it’ll last longer than her ABC show last season, “My Generation”

My West Bev Babies: Annalynne McCord, Tristan Wilds and Shanae Grimes

*Annalynne has recently made it be known that she wants to leave the show. Seeing as I’ll be very surprised if they get a fifth season, she’s not saying anything bold. They can just have wacky Adrianna (who just won’t kill herself already) take her place. She’s a stone cold witch who has moments of vulnerability, she’s neurotic and she’s rich. See? Same character.

Old Man Teddy isn’t going anywhere.

The “Nikita” crew

As we welcome new shows, we say goodbye to old ones. Pour out some of your 40 for the dead homies.; shows I’ve either never watched or didn’t know existed (not to mention the failed pilots of Kristin Kreuk (“17th Precinct”), Danneel Ackles (“I Hate That I Love You”), Uncle Werewolf of “The Vampire Diaries”, Taylor Kinney (“AMann’s World”), Ryan Eggold of “90210” (“Awakening”) and

Adrianne Palicki “Wonder Woman”)

NBC’s “Outsourced”, “Law and Order: Los Angeles”, “The Cape”, “The Event”. ABC’s “Better with You”, “V”, “Brothers and Sisters”, “Off the Map”, “Detroit 187”, “Mr. Sunshine”, “No Ordinary Family”. CBS’, “S*$T My Dad Says”, “Mad Love” and “The Defenders” (unlike ABC, CBS wasn’t going to let Jim Belushi just linger on TV), FOX’s “America’s Next Wanted”, “Human Target”, “Chicago Code”, “Traffic Light”, “Lie to Me” and “Breaking In” (as a SV fan I hurt for Rosenbaum because I know that was a dream character, but my favorite character on the show was Alphonos McCauley’s.) and the CW “Hellcats” (sorry, Tom) and “One Tree Hill”.

Oh wait a minute, no. “One Tree Hill”should’ve been cancelled! The second to last hold-over from the WB (SPN is the other) has been renewed for a eighth and final season. The show’s executive producer said that have hopes to bring Hillarie Burton (Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s baby mama, now a regular on “White Collar”) and Chad Michael Murray back for their finale, obviously because they hate themselves and their fans.

Other news that came out of the upfronts is that once again, Taylor Momsen’s role is being reduced on “Gossip Girl”

This gentle flower?

and Jessica Szoher has been placed on recurring status.

What does the new Fall Season schedule look like?

THE CW

MONDAY

9:00PM Hart of Dixie

TUESDAY

9:00PM RINGER

This pilot was originally made for CBS, but CBS decided it was a better fit for the CW, plus they can use it for free publicity: it’s a homecoming for Sarah Michelle because “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” was at the WB before being picked up by the UPN.

“Yeah, like I’m gonna let Alyson Hannigan continue to outshine me on TV.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as a woman who, after witnessing a murder, goes on the run, hiding out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister - only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind. Bridget is six months sober and starting to turn her life around when she is the sole witness to a professional hit. Despite the assurances of her FBI protector, Agent Victor Machado, Bridget knows her life is on the line. She flees to New York, telling no one, not even her Narcotics Anonymous sponsor, Malcolm. In New York, Bridget reunites with her estranged twin, Siobhan. Wealthy, pampered and married to the strikingly handsome Andrew Martin, Siobhan lives what appears to be a fairy tale life - a life where no one knows that Bridget exists. The sisters seem to be mending their frayed relationship, until Siobhan disappears mysteriously, and Bridget makes the split decision to take on her sister’s identity. Also stars Kristoffer Polaha (“Life UneXpected”), Nestor Carbonell (Richard “No I’m Not Wearing Eyeliner” of “Lost”), and Ioan Gruffudd.

Orphaned and deeply saddened, Cassie moves in with her warm and loving grandmother Jane in the beautiful small town of Chance Harbor, Washington - the town her mother left so many years before - where the residents seem to know more about Cassie than she does about herself. When her new friends explain that they are all descended from powerful witches, and they’ve been waiting for Cassie to join them and complete a new generation of the Secret Circle, it’s not until Cassie discovers a message from her mother in an old leather-bound book of spells hidden in her mother’s childhood bedroom, that she understands her true and dangerous destiny.

NEW GIRL is a new single-camera comedy that features a young ensemble cast and takes a fresh and outrageous look at modern male/female relationships. JESS DAY (Zooey Deschanel, “(500) Days of Summer”) is an offbeat and adorable girl in her late 20s who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn’t. Although she’s dorky and awkward, she’s comfortable in her own skin. Rounding out this group is Jess’ childhood best friend, CECE (Hannah Simone, “Beautiful People”), a deadpan, somewhat cynical model who blossomed after outgrowing her promiscuous adolescent years. She has the street smarts Jess lacks and spends a lot of time doling out no-nonsense relationship advice that only a professional model could give. She and Jess balance each other well and accept each other despite their faults, making Cece the perfect complement to Jess. As their relationships progress, the five friends come to realize they need each other more than they ever thought they would and end up forming a charmingly dysfunctional family.

9:30PM I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER

I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER (working title) is a new multi-camera comedy about two best friends who are single moms struggling to raise their difficult and over-privileged teenage daughters. ANNIE (Emmy Award winner Jaime Pressly, “My Name Is Earl”) and NIKKI (Tony Award winner Katie Finneran, “Wonderfalls”) are former high school outcasts whose pasts inform their current parenting styles. Annie, who was raised in an ultra-strict, über-religious household where she had little-to-no freedom, pretty much allows her daughter, SOPHIE (Kristi Lauren, “You”), to do whatever she wants. Nikki, once an unpopular, overweight social pariah, has reinvented herself as a pretty Southern belle whose top priority is providing her daughter, MACKENZIE (Aisha Dee, “Dead Gorgeous”), with the childhood she never had. Annie’s ex-husband, MATT (Eric Sheffer Stevens, “As The World Turns”), wants to be a good parent, but is too clueless to know what that even means. That leaves his brother, JACK (Kevin Rahm, “Desperate Housewives,” “Judging Amy”), an attractive, high-powered attorney, to serve as more of a father figure for Sophie.

ALCATRAZ

From executive producer J.J. Abrams and writer and executive producer Elizabeth Sarnoff (“Lost,” “Deadwood”) comes ALCATRAZ. When San Francisco Police Department DET. REBECCA MADSEN (Sarah Jones, “Sons of Anarchy”) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a shocking suspect: JACK SYLVANE (guest star Jeffrey Pierce, “The Nine”), a former Alcatraz inmate who died decades ago. Given her family history - both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, RAY ARCHER (Robert Forster, “Jackie Brown”), were guards at the prison - Madsen’s interest is immediately piqued, and once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent EMERSON HAUSER (Sam Neill, “Jurassic Park”) tries to impede her investigation, she’s doggedly committed. Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert and comic book enthusiast, DR. DIEGO “DOC” SOTO (Jorge Garcia, “Lost”), to piece together the inexplicable sequence of events.

When Andrew's editor, Jerry (Dave Foley), tells him to put a modern, sexy twist on his column or be fired, he hires Bert as a life coach in the hopes of learning to be less "gentle man" and more "real man." Andrew's mom, Diane (Nancy Lenehan), and his bossy sister, Janet (Mary Lynn Rajskub), support the plan, as would Janet's husband, Mike (Rhys Darby), if he was allowed to have an opinion. ~The SPN finale was on Friday (pulling in low ratings. Ha!). Old interviews centering on Balthazar, Sebastian Roche.

USA Weekend talks to Sebastian Roche
Examiner Talks to Sebastian
TV Guide talks Finale SPN

I actually loved the finale. Why? Because it’s great when that so many fans hated it or parts of it and it feels good to see another fandom in turmoil. When it’s Smallville, I’m too close to it; it stings and burns and itches and oozes when people don’t like an episode or the finale, for that matter. With SPN I’m an arms-length away so I can enjoy it because I’m not invested.

The DVD art has been released for S6.

What are the features?

Arnold Schwarzenegger confessed to fathering a child with he and his wife’s house staff over ten years ago. The rumor is that he told Maria in January, she fired the woman (I would guess so) and the woman was going to break the story. Arnold instead did it. Others just say she retired and she had no intention of coming forward. As a matter-of-fact when the story was breaking, reporters asked her about it and she denied everything stating that her child belonged to her ex-husband (oh, she too was married at the time).

I was surprised and shocked when Maria and Arnold announced their separation. I thought they were a strong couple. Such a scandalous, scandalous mess. They were such a happy couple once. When I think about the subterfuge…
