Smallville, Movies, Superheroes, Tom Hardy

~I just realized how my interest in the run-up to pilot season and the announcement of TV renewals were based on whether or not “Smallville” was returning. Now that it’s the end I find it hard to care about what’s in store for the CW and other networks. Will the pain of losing “Smallville” ever cease?

AlMiles know my pain, but they have rebounded from losing their cash cow their show by steadily writing and producing. Their current big name project is the “Charlie’s Angel” reboot. Collider talks to the two about the reboot.

Annie Ilonzeh will play Kate (who I’m thinking is the Kate Jackson character), Minka Kelly of “Friday Night Lights” and Rachael Taylor.

Earlier rumors had “Heroes” Danica Ramirez cast, but that didn’t pan out. They are still looking for a Bosley. Charlie will be played by Robert Wagner.

~Another classic series is being revisited. “Dallas” was supposed to make its big screen jump with John Travolta and Jennifer Lopez in roles. That didn’t pan out, but now TNT is bringing it back. The new “Dallas” will focus on the children of Ewings, namely JR and Bobby’s sons John Ross and Christopher. Cast as Christopher is Josh Henderson, the lame-o who dicked over Ashlee Simpson and showed his abs on “Desperate Housewives” in a lame arc. Also cast is Jordana Brewster (“Fast and the Furious”.

The big news is that Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy will reprise their roles. I’m not sure if it’s on a permanent basis, but what else are they doing?

The rumor was that Justin Hartley was in the running for a role but I think that’s fan talk more than concrete news.

~We have our new Superman in Henry Cavill ::rolls eyes:: but who is the new Lois Lane? Sites have reported that Kristen Stewart, Olivia Wilde, Rachael McAdams, Jessica Biel and Mila Kunis are amongst actresses who are in contention or have auditioned for Lois, now new reports are that three contenders are Alice Eve (“Sex in the City 2” “She’s Out of My League”) Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike (“Fracture”)- but these roles are not for Lois Lane as reportedly Lois will not appear in this Superman film.

Someone tweeted Phil Morris asking him his thoughts on the Superman casting.

His reply

Tom will be alright in his post-SV career. He can be the next Ron Howard.

Geoff Johns is impressed

In other superhero film news the rumor (that everyone is treating as fact) is that Joseph Gordon Levitt is joining the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises”.

I don’t know how to feel about that.

Oh, wait. Yes, I do.

Tom Hardy has some meta for you.

I’d like this shirt better.

Tom was heading into town to award Christopher Nolan with the VES Visionary Award.

GQMF

I want to be his hand.

Leonardo DiCaprio awarded Nolan with the Directors Guild Award a week or so ago.

This makes up for no Oscar nod for direction, yeah?

”A hubcap. Yay! I much prefer this over a stately Oscar anyday.

Nolan flanked by people who have actually been nominated for Best Director, David O. Russell and James Cameron.

Leo takes a pragmatic approach to Oscar snubs.

And Tom and Leo hung out at a Spurs game while Lukas Haas sits at home wondering where did his and Leo’s love go.

I should’ve known it was going to end.

Leo is so over this relationship.

“Ooh, look here’s a text from Lukas, “What did I do to deserve this?!”

“I can’t believe you nailed the kid from “Witness”!

”And the “Lady in White”

Whose been scratching up his face? His fiancee Charlotte Riley
over those Lindsay Lohan rumors?

That’s a sideeye worthy of Zahara Jolie-Pitt

*Speaking of Joseph Gordon Levitt, Joe is one of the actors featured in Vanity Fair’s 2011 Hollywood spread.

Other actors include the v.v handsome Anthony Mackie, Rashida Jones, Olivia Wilde, Jake Gyllenhaal and “Green Lantern”, Ryan Reynolds.

Seen in these behind the scenes pics

The issue will be a cross-generational issue of legends of Hollywood and will include shoots of

Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal and Robin Williams

Sidney Poitier with Halle Berry

Mel Brooks, Phyllis Diller, Dick Cavett, Tim Conway and Carl Reiner

James Earl Jones

Shirley Jones, Barbara Eden, Cloris Leachman, Doris Roberts and Marion Ross

Game show hosts: Bob Barker, et al

And don’t forget the HbiC

Helena Bonham Carter

*Other notable shoots from various mags

Tres sexy Vincent Cassel

The bendy Ciara

*A shoot that meant well, but does not look good at all. It salutes the female actors of a certain age, but ends up being a fcuk effort type of shoddy shoot. These are Sears portraits gone way wrong.

Jane Fonda as Josie from Josie and the Pussycats? I don’t know what this is.

Susan Sarandon in a Diana Ross wig

Sigourney Weaver in a cap. A cap?!

But I guess they are better than Rachel McAdams fashion shoot.

*In my continuing efforts to objectify Alex Pettyfer, here is Alex in a Tyler Shield’s shoot.

Back to real superheroes, not just dudes who will play an alien in a alien version of “Twilight” (“I Am Number Four”).

*Some “Captain America: The First Avenger” stills.

Pardon me, but isn’t he just wearing Ma Hunkel aka Red Tornado 1’s costume?

*David E. Kelley’s take on Wonder Woman is back on. But according to the site Bleeding Cool, it’s nothing to thank Hera for.

Last night I went to a screening of Topher Grace’s upcoming film “Take Me Home Tonight” and his costar is Teresa Palmer who was to play Wonder Woman in the abandoned Justice League film.

Teresa is more like a blonde Kristen Stewart…a blonde, non-androgynous Kristen Stewart.

She and Topher were on hand to introduce the film. It’s something that Topher will be doing across the country as he serves as one of the executive producers of the film and he came up with the story idea. Teresa welcomed everyone (wearing tap pants, I swear) and asked Topher (she’s Australian so she pronounced it ‘Toyfer’) if he had anything to say. Topher looking like he came out of the 80s with a denim jacket thanked the crowd for coming out in the cold (it’s like 57 degrees here, that’s cold to us in SoCal).

Topher: I have a question for you.

Random woman: YES!

Topher: Yes? You’re literally like “Take me home tonight.” Who here loves John Hughes films?

(me and others clap and cheer)

Topher: That’s pathetic. Like five people clapped. Okay, who likes to party and have a wild time?

(Louder applause and cheers)

Topher: Then I hope you have as much fun watching our film as we did making it. Thank you.

Then they leave the theater and I hope they stayed gone and didn’t come back in unnoticed because that movie is not good. Not.Good.At.All. It’s been on the shelves since 2006 our so and I can see why it hasn’t been released.

He mentioned John Hughes and I can see the germs of that influence. The movie is more like “Career Opportunities” John Hughes than “Breakfast Club” or “Weird Science” John Hughes.

Another movie I’ve seen recently was “The Mechanic” with Jason Statham and Ben Foster. That’s a fun film. It’s stupidly violent. I’m talking “Itchy & Scratchy” violent but that’s part of its excellence. And Ben does the impossible by being as bad ass-if not more-than Jason; all the while acting his butt off.

This movie would really be badass

I also saw the little indie film tilted “Waiting for Forever”. It’s directed by James Keach (brother of Stacy and husband of Jane Seymour)

I thought this movie was incredibly cute. It’s in no means a perfect film -there are some huge flaws in the storyline, but overall it’s just sweet and simple. It reminds me a lot of “Benny and Joon”. I actually thought the film took place in the 80s or early 90s because it’s so gentle and a bit dated, but in a good nostalgic way.

“Waiting for Forever” stars Tom Sturridge as Will who hitchhikes (see how dated this is?) to his hometown after his childhood crush Emma (Rachel Bilson) returns there to tend to her ailing father (Richard Jenkins). Will’s plan is to finally confess his love to Emma. The thing is Will who has fantasies of marrying Emma and has followed her from town to town has not spoken to Emma since they were kids. His friends Joe and Dolores (Nelson Franklin and Nikki Blonsky) support him wholeheartedly in his romantic endeavors. Will’s brother ( Scott Mechlowicz-excellent by the way) is the only one who questions Will’s sanity in living in a fantasy world of a non-existent relationship with Emma.

Nelson, Tom, Scott and Nikki

The film rolls along just fine for the most part: Tom is very darling. It’s the same manchild quality that I loved in “Pirate Radio”. Rachel Bilson is very good. Blythe Danner actually has something more to do than flail her hands around. And Scott Mechlowicz is great as the big brother who has the difficult task in trying to knock his brother back in reality. And when he does it, it’s like watching someone tell a kid that the Easter Bunny isn’t real. You just hate to see him have to inflict tough love on his brother.

The movie goes awry though with the B-plot. An out-of-nowhere development involving Emma’s boyfriend Aaron (Matt Alaric,”Damon’s other boyfriend” TVD). That almost sends the film screeching to a halt.

But other than that I really loved the film.

Since I mentioned Matt, it brings me to last night's "The Vampire Diaries". I can give credit where credit is due and for me TVD's strongest point is that it ends on a strong note. There are many an episode where the end makes me go back to take notice of the beginning and middle. Almost always it's on the strength of the music. I loved this scene between Damon and some chick who I think I'm supposed to know but doesn't.

starting at 4:52. I love how conflicted he is. And the fact that he cops to being "not that tall.

There’s not much out that I want to see. I don’t want to see “Roommate” which stars Leighton Meester, Aly Michalka, Mika Kelly and Danneel Harris (Ackles).

But it does star this guy.

Cam Gigadent. Damn, son.

*Not looking forward to the next “Transformer” titled “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”.

but Tyrese is. He even got a stupid tat to commemorate it.

*Speaking of tattoos. I saw this guy with these tats. He’s a makeup/hair stylist for plays and to commemorate ones he loved; the ones he learned the most on or had the best experience on, he got a tattoo for it.

The only thing he asked was that I didn’t post it to adult sites. Little does he know about my nekkid man posts! BWAHAHAHAHA.

~I leave you with
vintage Tom. I can see why the WB wanted him. He’s meant for teen mags
