Clark
Clark obviously got the memo that you're supposed to score at a wedding because he and Lois could've sealed the deal had it not been for unbe-weavable reappearance of Lana.
When he chastened Oliver with, "Oliver, you told me you set aside your need for vengeance." Reminded me so much of S2(?) when Clark, all virginal and in love told Jonathan that everything will be fine because Lex promised him that he would stop investigating him. Clark really is very trusting in relationships.
Lana
Loved that she jump kicked into the frame like Miss Piggy taking out someone who was making eyes at Kermit.
Clark isn't the only one who has shown maturity. I loved her absoluteness in the scenes with Clark.
What I brought up on TWOP (in the CK thread) about Lana's take on the mindwipe and how she would've hated if Clark did that to her, I think I'd been happier if she could've said that she's glad she knows the secret because it gave her a greater understanding of Clark or because it made her feel like a true ally and confidante, but instead she proved Clark's point that knowing his secret doesn't allow for his friends to live their own lives. If Lana didn't know Clark's secret, I think she would've still been in Smallville. So much of her attitude comes from being in Clark and Lex's world.
And who the hell is she working with?
Clark & Oliver
Wellity, wellity, wellity. Ollie's like some rom-com archetype, the wealthy playboy who doesn't believe in love, but he meets someone who turns his world topsy-turvy and all of a sudden he falls in love for the first time and he puts his heart on the sleeve and gives himself over to a relationship and Sixpence None the Richer plays over the end credits as they kiss. But he's also that archetype who loses his sh*t when he falls in love and he turns into a jealous, love sprung killer. He's so in love with Clark that he's out to kill Lex because he knows that when it comes down to it, he can't compete with Lex for Clark's affections. He's heard Clark's ringtone for Lex. It's Christina Aguilera's "A'int No Other Man". Ollie's is just a standard ring. Not even music.
Oliver is just a love sprung mess.
Oliver: "Clark, what are you talking about you've given Lex 100 second chances."
Clark: "And if he's out there alive he hasn't made a move in months." Have you heard about him injecting someone with hormones to make her think she's pregnant? No. Any news of clonings? No? He can't kill Lionel or Patricia Swann again, let's sleep on this.
Oliver: "The wedding? Is that the real reason you don't want to go after Lex or is that an excuse?"
(nothing's working so Ollie's going to go for broke)
Oliver: "Maybe Lex hasn't made his move yet, but he will. He's more dangerous now than he ever was. Chloe may not know your secret, but Lex does."
SUCCESS! But wait, Oliver's not done yet, he has to make sure he has Clark in the palm of his hands..literally and figuratively.
Oliver: "Well, the truth is I'm going after Lex for you."
Clark: For me?
Oliver: Because of you. No..wait...which one sounds less self-serving?
Clark: For you.
Oliver: Then that's what I'm doing it for.
And what I really loved about their scenes is the random dude on the plane who called them out for their lovers spat and Ollie smiled proudly like, "Yeah...I guess he is my lover." He loves the sound of it. But poor guy doesn't realize he's the rebound guy. No one stays with the rebound guy.
But Ollie shouldn’t feel bad. Clark will have a history of drama filled relationships.
Lois
I know falling in love for the first time is scary especially when one isn't a big believer in love and hates the vulnerability that comes with love, but jeezy creezy, does Lois has to angst in every episode about her feelings for Clark? If loving Clark is flipping her out so much, maybe she should just go back to random bar hookups and keep it platonic with him. Holy shit, I'm sure there are siblings who are sleeping together and aren't filled with this much anguish. She’s sizing him up as if they have to get married right now. You can see her making her decision when Clark gave Chloe the pressed flower (he’s such a damn girl).
And her immediate shut down when she saw Clark with Lana really irked me. Because sure, history has shown that when it comes to Lana, Clark is quick to go running back to her arms, but I could swallow it easier if there was an actual romantic relationship between Clark and Lois and not just a hint of one. I can get Lois' reaction in Superman 2 because she knew how it felt to have Superman as her own and crying Maybelline streaked tears because she can't be with him. SV's Lois? ::throws hands up:: He's not hers. She's not even sure if she wants him to be.
But while it's hard for me to buy it, I will buy it because falling in love makes you irrational and it makes you sit in the corner of a darkened room listening to Love Songs After Dark on the radio and trying to hold it together during John Waite's "Missing You".
And I don't mind admitting that the entire dance scene was pretty nice. Dammit.
Davis/Doomsday
Excellent. I wasn't too sure about the costume but as long as they had the bones sticking out, it was enough. To me that's a signifier of Doomsday.
Chloe
Creepy as hell at the end. Brainiac is really taking one for the team because what if Doomsday want to make Chloe his mate? I guess whatever it takes to take down the house of El.
It feels like she was barely in the episode. Maybe if they cut eight minutes out of Lois' seemingly ten minute monologue about how she wasn't sure if the man she loved needed her, Chloe would've had more screen time.
Other Things
*Jimmy (to Lois): Lois and CLark would be great together. I can feel it in my gut. Are those the same guts that tell you that Chloe loves you and only you? Maybe you shouldn't listen to your guts.
*I'm going to start a drinking game and will take two swigs each time someone tells Lois how she and Clark feel about each other. And the day the Martian Manhunter tells her that she and Clark belong together or she should take a chance on Clark, I'm going to break the bottle over my head.
*Maybe if Chloe and Jimmy spent less money on lights, they'd have enough to find a decent place to hold a wedding instead of a barn.
*Jimmy-lite was cute. They should’ve just explained that he was Jimmy’s cousin because they were too much alike.
*Also cute? Jimmy telling Chloe he was going to get his bow tie.
*The Kents keeping kryptonite in the linen closet in case of emergency I can get . Clark keeping the kryptonite in his desk is a bit more bewildering. Maybe he takes it out and uses it to see if it still makes him weak, like I would touch 9 volt batteries to my tongue to see if it would give me a jolt.
*It may seem odd that Clark just happened to have the yearbook out but Clark spends his free time going through it. “Belle Reve, Belle Reve, dead, did him, did him, did him while Lex watched, Belle Reve, moved to Cincinnati, dead”.
*No Gabe? I guess his invite got lost in the mail along with Pete’s and Martha’s.
*Why is Lex in the Matrix?
Seeing as that we have to wait nearly two months for another episode, January 15th had better kick ass is all I’m saying.
Song used in the montage:
Don’t Take Your Love Away: Vast While Dean was recounting his experience in Hell, I was too busy watching Sam trying to keep it together to pay attention to Dean. I think it hits me more when someone is trying not to cry versus when someone actually cries.
I was waiting for that unscripted “On Golden Pond” moment when Jane Fonda, reached for Henry Fonda’s hand and they just held on to each other as they cried, but it wasn’t forthcoming. I think Jared sat on his hands to keep from reaching out and comforting his common law husband Jensen.
