so i had a birthday this week. it was very low-key. TWD took me to dinner at a mexican restaurant i wanted to try. i was feeling meh in my head so i did not get a margarita, but dinner was wonderful just the same. i wanted to be "adventurous" and go boldly where we'd never gone and it did not disappoint. IT WAS ALSO a great place to have sopapillas--most places do it ALL WRONG and put chocolate all over it or some such, or make them crispy, and all they are is dough pillows with cinnamon and sugar and honey drizzled on top. that is the way i like them.
this place had ice cream and whipped cream on the side, so i did not eat that part.
the hardest part was deciding what to order so we will definitely have to go back and try other things.
a young man near us was also having a birthday, and his wonderful family had the serving staff bring him a big-ass sombrero and dessert and embarrass him with a song. they also painted a moustache and beard on him with canned whipped cream. it was quite hilarious. when TWD asked if i wanted them come to our table, i said, emphatically, NO.
TRUE STORY: i did this to TWD one time in front of all his friends at ChiChi's (sans whipped cream facial hair--that's something new to me!) he is convinced he has to get me back some day. i am convinced it was no trouble at all and he does not have to repay the favor. ;)
so when he got up to use the restroom i said, "I AM WATCHING YOU. you do NOT speak to ANYONE on the way there or back!" he did not. *whew* hehehehe
i got to skype with 2 out of 3 parents and spoke to my mom on the phone so it was all around a good day. apparently my aunt buba has skype now too, so maybe we will try that this weekend!
last weekend was some celebrating of another kind--TWD's parents' 50th wedding anniversary. they had friends and family over (about 15 people) for crab cake dinner and then we went to a hillbilly bar after. no joke. the bar is called "Hillbilly Heaven." oy. but! it turned out to be a fun evening, despite the country music. i knew probably six songs and danced to four. i drank heavily. ;)
the next day found us at the movie theatre with good friends of ours, a movie theatre that serves food-food to you and drinks and expressly FORBIDS you to talk during the movie or use your cell phone for ANY REASON. even on silent. why? because it's annoying to see someone texting and lighting up the seat in front of you, that's why. if you're there to text and not watch a movie, stay home. don't go to a movie. maybe you have an addiction to your phone and you should see a professional if you can't put it away for two freaking hours.
so that was a lovely day and wonderful spending time with friends. i foresee a lot more of time-spending-with-friends in the year to come... and i love it.
work has kept me super busy and i am in high demand. not a day goes by when i don't have minimum two or three emails with people asking me to look at this or revise that or input on this other thing "really quick" -- but there are worse problems to have, right? :) i thought so.
