So, I suppose I need to update. I've been trying to avoid it.
I'm not ready to talk about what happened. Or think about it, even though I really can't help thinking about it, and I have no idea what I'm going to do about it, so I'll leave “it” at that. All I will say is that the bizarrely fruity mixed drink that I swore not to have, had the predicted result.
The next morning, I flaked on Jana. It seemed the wise thing to do. The woman has a way of knowing when I've had sex, and even though I had Diziara come over with her regenerator, I still think it was obvious especially given that the lack of sleep was plenty evident. I don't care for the whole ship to know about my adventures especially since they involved a department head. Diziara seems trustworthy. She's had plenty of chances to tell my dirt to the whole ship, and hasn't.
I stayed with Diz the rest of the morning, until some time between 1400 and 1500. We ate at a girly little eatery, the kind that you never, ever see a man set foot in, or at least almost never. Then we visited this place in Chinatown which I've always wanted to see, but I don't find myself in New York City very often. Diziara knows the place better than I, and was able to lead the way.
Before going to the weapon store, though, I did a little bit of clothes shopping. It's a new outfit for the next talent show... it's a little racier than what I'm used to wearing. Black silk shot through with gold thread, with gold trim and gold dragon and phoenix embroidery. The jacket is short-sleeved and is cropped above my midriff and the pants sit low on my hips. I made sure to wear the outfit into the weapon store, because in places like that, you need all the leverage you can get. Diz seemed to approve.
The shopkeeper treated us like a couple of dumb tourists until I pulled him aside to tell him in Cantonese that Chu Wan Li sent me... then he led us downstairs, behind a door, to look at the “private collection” .
Wow. What a lot of sharp and shiny pretty that was. From various places. Diz was like a kid in a candy store, and came away with more than a few pretties. She had her eye on a Romulan hazdja and pondered how to get it past customs.
There were even four bat'leth on display. When I mentioned to Diz that I've been wanting to learn for a while, she happily volunteered to teach, and after trying out the various ones, she helped me find one that was nice and properly weighted.
I haven't managed to get decent weapons in my travels (except through mail-order) just because of not knowing how to get them through customs, but Diz reassured me that this wasn't an issue, she and the shopkeeper both knew how to deal with this so I took my chances.
I think that the sight of me (dressed not unlike a character in a wuxia holonovel) and then of the six foot half-Klingon goddess... swinging weapons around the store... intimidated the shopkeeper a little.
I'm not sure if Therav would want to have the shopkeeper arrested, buy up his entire store or both. And I'm going to try not to ask myself that question again.
I really, really need a nap before the handover, and sleep off the sex- and carb-induced brainfog before I do the walk of shame back to the ship. Or the BEAM of shame... as it were.
