SCA Background checks to work w/ kids...
Can I just say, that reading the discussion on the archived Middlebridge is making my blood pressure go up????
What the fuck is wrong with these people.
If you want to work with children, professionally, you have to pass a background check.
If you want to work at a crappy inner city daycare you have to pass a back ground check.
If you want to work at the YMCA with kids, you have to pass a back ground check.
If you want to VOLUNTEER to be a Big Brother or Big Sister, YOU HAVE TO PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK.
If you want to work at certain schools, you have to pass a background check!!!!!!!
It protects the organization, it helps filter candidates to better protect the kids. Is this rocket science?
If you don't want to work with kids because the background check violates your "civil liberties" then maybe you want to rethink sending your kid to their school or a daycare or to the Y or to respite care after school, because all of those people have submitted themselves to a background check for the privilege to work with your children. We understand that it's part of our job to keep our noses clean and to keep ourselves out of trouble. And no, a clean background check doesn't guarentee that someone isn't an offender but it's a start.
