watching Transformers... (yes, ANOTHER transformers post) I realize, that in a bit of a less silly way then most shows, they portray the battle between abosolute good and absolute evil fairly well. The decipticons always seem to fail via petty power sturggles and overwhelming arrogance... While the autobots life is complicated by their inability to simply wipe the decpticons from the planet due to their beliefs in redemption and honor. Itd be awesome to see a real Transformers cartoon (not that shite they make now) in this day and age, where they could take those paradigms to even higher levels, and make for some truely awesome animation. And this brings me to another point, what did we ever to do to deserve animation going the "wrong way". As in cutsey ass kid shows. Why not go the other way, showing deep and invovling stories with little need to worry about real world shortcomings and expenses, even anime seems to have fallen to this, producing unrelenting dbz style shite of late, from waht I've seen. Now, to be fair, theres some good stuff, but even amongst the, I see predictable stories and weak over used shock value to draw in viewers. Perhaps its based on most animes short series style, and their need to make a solid sow early, but I still think its wasted potential. Many shows have shown that you can make a very solid viewing through long term storytelling, and I really believe that animation could do it even easier. And I'm not talking about silly stuff life Futurama and Family Guy, as neat as they are. I'm talking about something like Robotech or Transformers, made for the modern age 20-32 fantasy-scifi enthusiast. Sans childsafe considerations like Transformers had, and sans overdramaitc storylines like Robotech, just hit the nitty gritty, good fights and compelling characters...It'd be fucking gold. Hell, it'd make gold look like burnt out toaster ovens. I love my TV on dvd, but, eh, most of what I see, I'd rather wait for the bargain bin to buy it. I really do believe the "moving picture" to be one of mans highest art forms ever, but ladies curse if I'm not becoming a little disillusioned, and a lot bitter. So, this ended in a different space then it started, but, eh, I feel all right anyway.
(ps. Veronica Mars rules and is an exception to a new forming rule. Really, its hella good.)
