I'm posting an email I got from the director of the rescue shelter I voulenteer for. If anyone can help, I'd be forever grateful! I plan on seeing if I can foster some of the pigs.

I'm writing to you as a active volunteer with the APPR. As many of you may have heard, we are involved in the largest single rescue we've taken on to date.

I am not asking you to donate cash, as you already donate your time, your home, your love, and much, much more to the rescue, however, if you are willing to foster, or volunteer in other ways, please let me know.

If you know of anyone interested in adopting, fostering, volunteering or donating cash, please spread the word.

While I understand this is unorthodox, know that this is not a decision that we, as a non-profit, chose lightly. For us, it's really very simple, either help the piggies, or do nothing.

I will not - do nothing.

There is a breeder in Arizona who supplies Rainbow Exotics out of Texas. Many of you have heard of PETA’s investigation into Rainbow Exotics, January 28, 2008. If not, here is a link to the video. It’s not for the faint of heart.

While the conditions at the breeder do not justify intervention from Animal Control, and they have investigated this breeder before, they are bad enough to require our attention.

This breeder keeps up to 50 piggies in a baby pool, in a garage with no A/C or fans.

In the seven years this family has been breeding, never have they utilized the services of a Vet.

• They perform c-sections on dead sows to save the $8 per pup they get from the wholesaler.
• They amputate limbs from piggies with bumblefoot.
• They back to back breed the sows until their bodies shut down and they are no longer capable of sustaining pregnancy.
• They drown pups when the herd gets too large or if there are too many male pups to sell to the wholesaler.

We took 2 pregnant sows home with us on our first visit on Friday, June 27th. Yesterday, Pumpkin, one pig that had her foot amputated, started bleeding, so we took her to the Vet.
During the C-section, Dr. M found all 4 pups to be dead, for some time. Pumpkin was euthanized as a result of the infection in her uterus and bowels. She had been breed so many times that "she had the body of a 6 year old pig" when in fact she was just 2 years old.

We need to raise $1,000 to get these piggies out. This includes costs to "buy their business", feed, foster care and potential vet bills. Yes, we are buying the breeder out, and they have agreed to stop breeding guinea pig.

Not only are we stopping the senseless, cold hearted breeding of these poor piggies, but we are stopping a major supplier to the commercial pet trade and most importantly we are giving comfort and hope to 100 lives.

We are accepting donations on our website www.piggiepoo.org. Let your friends know that even $5 will make a huge difference.

If they do decide to donate, we will apply that donation toward the adoption of a sweet, beautiful pig, or three!

Thank you so much for your support. You are truly their angels.

Amanda, Lisa and Diane,
Directors of Arizona’s Piggie Poo Rescue.
