I'll gladly take the zen hugs, Caroline, and thank you!
Like Tracey said, it isn't at all weird that they can't find a reason for the seizures. I've been doing a little research, and from what I can tell, 'epilepsy' is sort of a catch-all diagnosis for all seizures that are not due to physical causes like microbial or bacterial infection or something putting a swelling sort of pressure on the brain.
I think this is a wrong thing, because every seizure has a cause, and not every being whose brain seizes (even more than once) is an epileptic. *I* think each seizure is due to something like an electro-chemical overload or perhaps a certain chemical 'buildup' that reaches critical mass.... there are so many different substances in our brains that act as neurotransmitters, and they interact in so many different ways... well, I just think there's a whole heaping lot we don't know. And I'm not satisfied with a diagnosis of 'epilepsy'.
Otherwise, he's doing well... adjusting to the phenobarbital as well as he can. Still unsteady, but able to mostly be himself. It's a good thing. At least he isn't having continuous tonic-clonic episodes. =D
You hit that nail on the head, Dawn. There is a lot of unknowns about seizures, well, not only in animals, but in humans as well.
I'm glad Bragi seems to be doing well on the meds, and as always it's a quality of life issue, and his is great. And that is because you are such a wonderful caretaker. He is a lucky dog. :-)
