Beautiful!! You're going to have SUCH fun! So...are you going to go all formal, learning scales and exercises to jump start your technical proficiency, or jump right in with learning tunes to play together?
*already* having fun --I have a sort of 'mentor'.. musician friend, knows a great deal more than I probably ever will.. he's taught me scales, I have books of exercises.. AND he's teaching me basic 'chops'.. ways to strum, and chord, and finger-pick that can be combined to create a characteristic sound, of sorts.. eventually, I'll develop my own unique chops, and I can already see the beautiful instinctive flow of math inherent in music. Like visual art, it's a collection of principles that can be selected and applied to suit a particular purpose. and OMG I have some gorgeous tools to make selections with. :)
Frank and I are already practicing together, learning to play in time together.. in a few days, I think we'll be ready to start doing rhythm/lead things, playing together but not playing the same notes or chords. Some of the practice sessions are songs one can recognize. It's such an immediate, totally involved thing to do. I love it. :D
Caroline Baker did the painting.. it's one of the most striking things in my house. I move all the artwork around occasionally, and right now is one of those 'flux' moments.
I agree.. that Gibson is sweetness, itself. *swoon*
Neat how my painting sort of goes with that pair. I'm very jealous though. I had a rewd Fender when I was in high school. i also had my walls decorated with old license plates I'd find at the junk yard. My walls loved feedback. This photo made me miss that Fender and rubbing the ridges off my fingers, but I'd probably have to learn again from scratch. I'm horrible at retaining musical knowledge for some reason. Looks like you'll be having a blast! (pun intended) :D
we're having a TOTAL blast.. Frank wants to grow up to be a shredder (which, I learned, requires a LOT of classical training--hahahahah!) and for myself, I wanna grow up to be a blues guitarist.
Of course, we'll probably both end up playing polkas in nursing homes... ;)
Interest? Probably closer to obsession. I've been playing percussion on the kitchen table for the last decade or so.. didn't have space for my old piano, so gave it back to Mom and Dad. Played with guitars as a kid, but wasn't ever taught much.. I think it's a family thing, honestly. Both sides. All of us make some kind of music, almost constantly. Family reunions are *really* noisy. =P
and oh, baby.. you really shouldn't be envious of skipped meals, lost sleep, and mega mondo callouses on the fingertips --not to mention the stiff pecs. *groan* Hot showers every night are a necessity, just so one can flop nerveless into bed and slip into a 6-hour coma. ;)
