Monkey Portraits

Jill Greenberg

I'm a huge fan of photography books, but find it is difficult to share my love of this art form with teens.  So it is a delight to find a portrait book I think they will enjoy for booktalks.  This book is at once, disturbing and delightful.  The monkeys are incredibly expressive, and at times it is very difficult to look at them an not see human emotion pouring from their furry faces.  It makes one examine how we relate to the world, and our own primate nature.  This book is both entertaining and thought provoking.

Librarians, do be warned...while this book is very wholesome, there is a monkey with a male member peeking out from his fur, which may prove distracting to the junior high set.

book review, monkeys, silly
