For the Win
Cory Doctorow
In the awfully near future (or could it be now?) gamers all over the world are being exploited by big companies. Wealthy lazy Americans who don't want to work for their video game treasures have created a black market which is supplied by thousand of "gold miners", kids in other countries who work their butts off playing games for a living. In China, India and other places where labor is cheap and plentiful, greedy adults exploit kids who love gaming. In For the Win, the gamers decide to organize and try and get fair pay for their hard work. An epic story spanning continents, For the Win captures the real struggles of teens in far away places that readers will become absorbed following. At times Doctorow's prose leans a bit heavy on the education, but the passion he feels for the subject, and the wonderful descriptions of far away places will keep the reader going. Recommended for high school and above.
