Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things

Alvin Ho: Allergic to Camping, Hiking, and Other Natural Disasters
Lenore Look

Alvin Ho is a scaredy cat and he knows it.  If you can be afraid of it, he probably is. He gets so freaked out, he can't even talk at school!  He has to see a therapist once a month to try and help him, but other than getting really freaked out, he does ok.  He has a terrific family, including a dad who is trying to teach him how to be a gentleman.  He has lots of kids to play with in the neighborhood, even if the most eager is a girl.  And he has a terrific sense of humor.

The main character is a first grader, but the book is probably closer to a 4th grade reading level.  And maybe the humor is going to make adults laugh more, I don't know.  I found this series absolutely delightful, and highly recommend using this series, or Look's equally hilarious Ruby Lu books as a fun pallet cleanser when you have been reading too many serious or scary things.
