I hardly update anymore, but that was because there wasn't much to update on.
About two months ago, I packed up my life in Pittsburgh, and moved south. I seriously think that was the smartest move I have made in a while. Things in Houston have been amazing. I am truly happy to be here, to see friends of mine that I hadn't seen in years, and would only see once every couple of years. To be back in the warm weather that I missed ever so much. To be 45 minutes away from a beach. Granted, Galveston beaches aren't that hot, but still - to be able to feel sand between my toes, mmmmmmm.
Everyone kept saying that I would be arriving during the hottest time of year, but I guess my body is still used to heat, because it ain't that bad. When I was out in June looking for a place, that was bad. Then again, that was a humid heat, where as this is more dry.
And things are starting to fall into place now too. I finally found a job. I do a little bit of everything. Basic administrative stuff right now, but as soon as I completely understand the program that we sell, I will become a tech support person. It is this small company, and by small I mean like 5 employees, with 31 clients all over the country at the moment. The pay isn't that great, but the other benefits outweigh that at the moment. In a city of heavy commuting, where most travel times to work range between 30-45 minutes, I live 15 minutes away from my job site. 20 minutes if traffic is bad. Most businesses have a business casual dress code, but we don't. We have no local clients, so we don't see people. And when we do, the upgrade is that jeans can't be ripped. And every other Friday, we go to lunch at a nice(r) restaurant. The boss' husband works at KBR, and takes us to lunch on his day off. This week we went to Pappadeux's (awesome seafood for those not in the know).
I am currently on contract with an employment agency, so I have a little give. If another one of the companies that I interviewed for happens to call me and say they are interested in hiring me, I can weigh the two against each other and see which would be a better fit for me.
On a separate note, I have also been looking into adopting a dog. I have always been around big dogs, but the complex won't allow big or agressive breeds, so I opted to look for a little pug. Several weeks ago I was just walking around one of the pet stores just pricing things so that I could budget toys, food.... and one of the agencies that I was looking into was there. They said they happened to have a pug in care. I went back the following week and got to meet litle Pugsley. He is the cutest little thing! Pug and Border Collie mix, we think. Anyways, the same day that I got my job, I was also awarded Puglsey!!!! We just have to wait for his ID number, and then the little tyke will be mine!!! It is going to be any day now! Maybe the lucky streak will continue, and he will get his number tomorrow, and after i am done volunteering at the shelter I can fill out the paperwork and he can come home with me!
