Post-Surgery Report

Well guys, I hadn't mentioned it in here, but I had minor surgery on Wednesday. It was a little scary, so truthfully, I was trying to think about it as little as possible. The problem going in was undiagnosed chronic pain in the area of my right ovary (which, if you were around three years ago, you might remember that I had a huge cyst there that was removed).

The scary thing about this procedure was that all the doctor could be sure about was that it WASN'T a cyst this time - we did a sonogram and that would have shown up. So it was possibly scar tissue on or around my ovary or my appendix and it could have required removal either of only the tissue or of the entire ovary or the appendix. It also could have been endometriosis, which is pretty common but relatively difficult to treat and can cause infertility. Removing one ovary, by the way, is normally fine because the other should take over. But I'd still prefer to have both of mine if it's all the same to everyone else.

So anyway, the results of the surgery were that there was a good bit of scar tissue around my ovary (probably developed from the last surgery) which was causing pain itself and also limiting the mobility ovaries are supposed to have, causing further pain. And my doctor was able to cut out the tissue only, leaving the ovary set up in such a way as to prevent the pain from recurring. It was definitely the best-case scenario for the surgery. And I'm recovering very well, so I'm cheerful all the way around now. I'll even be ready to start classes on the 23rd. Yippee!
