So, the final decision has been made.
I am moving back to California.
When: At the end of summer - August or September but I’m at the mercy of USAA or when I can get a job elsewhere if need be.
Why: I have a pro’s & con’s list but I’m keeping that to myself but what is comes down to is this: The safe, practical, mature thing to do is for us to be in California. Aaron will complete his credential program, start & complete Grad school and I will return to USAA or another insurance company & finally get my degree. New York isn’t going anywhere and we may come back someday if we are in a position to do so. When I decided to come to NY I had no set goal or agenda. I didn’t want to star on Broadway or become a trader on the floor of the Stock Exchange. I just wanted to be able to send X-mas cards and my return address say New York, NY. And frankly, that was slightly overrated.
Don’t get me wrong…I love New York City. This decision wasn’t easy and actually leaving will be bittersweet.
When I told Patty Newton (A Director at USAA and one of my mentors & personal favorites) that I was leaving she told me, “it’s not about where you live but it’s about the people you surround yourself with.” I think about that often and now I really know what she meant by that. I agree.
So, I’ll temporarily stay between Aaron, Rayan’s and Jaylene’s houses until I find my own place in Sac. Hopefully USAA will take me back and I can ease right back into things. I told my mom & dad that I want my car back. I’ll be happy to have my car back.
I’m relieved.
I’m ready to build a solid foundation. I can’t wait to be in the same time zone and be able to have dinner on Wednesday night with him if I wanted to.
I’m happy and completely at peace with my decision.
