Had a ball with my Professionals friends in Detroit--or more specifically Romulus, Michigan. We played extremely raunchy Pictionary and Cards against Humanity styled specifically for Pros, with answers so filthy I'm not sure I can say the answers in mixed company!
przed and fjbryan were the con com with the mostest and had scheduled wonderful panels (I think it will surprise very few that I moderated one on medical facts and another on BDSM--which even Flamingo, who doesn't watch Pros, attended.) There were episodes to watch and comment on, vids to ooo and awww over, and fantastic swag.
I'd recently given my old dvds, which had been burned for me by scfossil in '07 or '08, to pimp another fan into Pros, so I was pleased as punch to get 'new' dvds still in the box for only ten bucks, plus three vintage zines for free.
Even my flights weren't bad--only a slight delay on the last leg from Dallas to San Francisco, and I had a zine to read, so I didn't care.
This was a very intimate group--only about 25 people there, fewer than that at any one time in the con room, so it was more like a weekend long party. The most wonderful thing about cons is reconnecting with old fan friends and meeting new friends. Sitting and chatting about a 35 year old British TV series with like minded people is something to be cherished. No need to explain what it all means, not just British terms or why we like slash. A weekend with other fans is like a jumpstart to the world weary soul.
I had never been to Michigan, and since I didn't actually see Detroit (the airport area hotel we were in was 45 minutes from the city centre), I did get a glimpse of Ann Arbor (illogically closer to the Detroit airport) and it was a beautiful university town full of lovely old stone and brick buildings.
The whole state is so flat and green, with actual rain, that this California girl, used to rolling hills covered with drought browned grass could hardly cope.
On the homefront, Lavender, the demon kitten, is getting along with Starsky and Tegan. Love how evenly spaced they are on the bed.
My sister took this one while I was gone--just proving what we all knew; Lavender may look sweet and gentle, but she's got a bit of Loki in her.
SHarecon is in exactly two months--so I get to see about half the people I just hung out with again in October! YAY. (got to save my pennies--literally, or I won't get anything to eat.)
