I was just astonished to hear about the escape of the three women in Cleveland

Thank goodness these women survived and can be reunited with their families, but damn--why would someone do that? Keep women prisoner in a basement, beat and rape them? It's unfathomable.
It seems only yesterday when Jaycee Dugard escaped, having been held under similar circumstances. Although, when I look at the news, that happened over four years ago! I didn't realize it was so long ago now. She is a testament to strength under duress and emerged strong, having nurtured her daughters despite purely evil people keeping her hostage.
What's all the more eerie, to me, was last night's episode of Hawaii 5-O featured the story of a girl kept chained up for ten years and then the kidnapping of a second child. I certainly cannot speak to the minds of the monsters who grabbed the women in Cleveland and Jaycee, but I have to say, the reason the captor on H5-O kept the girls was so STUPID. For the welfare money, which (according to Danno) was about $500 a month. That truly makes little sense. The couple in the episode still had to clothe her, feed her and she had a very nice bedroom, so they certainly couldn't be making any money on the deal. I know, it's fictional, but really, I begin to wonder why I watch this series. (handsome cops...) The writers get paid to write such utter schlock. Nothing ever makes a lick of sense in their version of Hawaii.
Send up prayers, good vibes and thanksgiving for the lost women who have come home, for all those who are in dire straits, and give your kids and loved ones a hug.
