Tuesday Thanksgiving

Yep, my extended family will be celebrating with turkey and pie today because we all have today off. I actually got Thursday off, but my nephew the doctor, and my sister who works at Safeway, did not.

The strangest thing happened at Starbucks the other day. Demelza and I went in to get drinks. She has her own gift card, and was so proud to pay by herself. Alas, she didn't have enough funds on the card so we scrounged up the cash. I then gave my Starbucks card to the barista and paid for mine. We went to wait for our cups, but a few minutes later, she told my my card had not worked and the woman after me inadvertently paid for my drink. The other barista was figuring this all out and could I swipe my card again? Sure.

The card was swiped through the reader and the cash register froze! I'd used the card three days earlier and knew there was funds available. So the other barista swiped it on her cash register--and now there is a line of customers waiting. The second cash register froze too! Is my card defective somehow? I offered to pay cash but they shooed my out while calling their manager. Hmm. Should I try the card at a different Starbucks? We both enjoyed our drinks (I had green tea macha frap, which is very similar to my favorite drink at Jamba juice)--and that was only the start of a whackadoodle day in the intensive care nursery, as well.

I felt flayed by the end of the night--so of course, did a twelve hour shift on Monday. I was rewarded: one of the nurses threw another a surprise party at 9:30 last night, and we all pigged out on chocolate cake. That was later than we usually have a party in the break room, but made me--and the birthday girl--all happy. I am totally bleary now, even after a long nap once Demelza left for school.

I am determined to finish a Pros fic today and work on a Lewis fic for a gift exchange. Demelza will be home from school the rest of the week, so this is the only day to write.

Yes, for those keeping track--still reading The Crimson Petal and the White. It's getting really interesting now--about page 700, but I get home from work, read three or four pages at midnight thirty and fall asleep.

I have watched only half an hour of last week's Scorpion--no other TV shows since Wednesday. How will I catch up at this rate? Luckily, mostly repeats this week, I suspect.

Toodles!
