April Twenty-fourth

Slipping under the wire here. I would have totally forgotten to post except that I got the afternoon off from work and we came back home after Demelza's baseball game.

Can I admit, I hate baseball? Every kind of baseball (actually, we can extend that to ALL sports, including the tennis and basketball she played yesterday), but particularly the games D plays in. Yes, it's wonderful to see the special needs kids all getting a chance at bat and participating but...each child gets to swing at the ball until they hit it. Which is sometimes 6 or more times before the bat contacts the ball.

Don't get me wrong, I cannot hit a bat with a ball even if I tried, so I know how hard that is to do. Just that it makes an already slow, boring game even more so. Demelza is now basically an assistant coach (and her t-shirt is green instead of blue like the other kids) and she takes the job seriously. At one point, one boy swung but missed the ball and D yelled something to him. The pitcher, a funny, wonderful guy, said "Did you hear Coach D? She said to bend your knees a little." He did so, and swung, hit the ball nearly out of the park. I guess she was right!

I'm going to make some spaghetti for dinner and wait for a phone call at 5:30, see whether I get the other four hours off work. I'd enjoy watching One Upon a Time and Grantchester.

Just saying... and very grateful to have a job that occasionally gives me time off with pay.
